How do you connect a bluetooth speaker?
« on: December 29, 2018, 03:39:41 pm »
Yes I know "its that easy", supposedly. Ive read a dozen how-tos from Amazon to whomever but none of them work or give complete instructions.

So here goes, my observations/comment in RED

I have a new Echo Dot and want to connect a Bluetooth speaker.

I place The Echo Dot and Speaker 10 cm apart.
Place the speaker in pairing mode
and try to go through the steps but the speaker is not found.

Amazon says

To connect a Bluetooth speaker to your Echo:

Turn on pairing mode on your Bluetooth speaker. For more information, refer to the user guide for your Bluetooth speaker. Done
In the Alexa app, select the Devices icon  "".  I do this
Choose your device. Choose what Device? Speaker or? I Suspect the ECHO DOT. I choose that
Select Bluetooth Devices. This option does NOT exist
Select Pair a New Device. As as the previous does not exist niether does this
When a list of available devices appears, select your Bluetooth speaker and follow the instructions on the screen. once again, because of the above my device does not exist

So can someone explain to me how to connect the ECHO Dot to an External Bluetooth speaker (sony)?

Thanks

I find it easiest to connect to bluetooth through the Alexa app.
Go to devices,
Swlect Echo & Alexa
Select the Dot you want to connect to
(make sure your speaker in pairing mode)
Select Bluetooth devices on the app
Should find your speaker and connect.
Always works for me.

all I do is to turn on the bt device and make sure it is in pairing mode, and tell alexa to connect.  it works even if it is a new connection.
