Echo being used as a hands free speaker

Probably one of the most disappointing things with the Amazon Echo is that it can't be used as a hands free speakerphone when connected to your mobile. Similar to how you link your phone to your car and use its speaker and mic, do you reckon this will be a feature introduced by Amazon?

Google Home can do it no problem.

I don't have to "connect" my phone to my echo to use it as a speaker phone at all... must be a user thing... All I have to do is ask Alexa to call (whoever) and she will ask me which [mobile/home/work] do I want to call, and I tell her and she makes it happen... then I carry on a phone conversation...

And how does that work? The only calls I  can do is to the Echo app.
