Amazon echo in Australia

Hi everyone
So trying to find out if anyone actually knows where. The Amazon echo will be available in Australia
All things I can find only say early 2018
I am currently in UK visiting family and wondered if I just buy the here and take back
Or just wait to the official release in Australia
Tried on line chat with Amazon but to be honest they really offer no help and have very little knowledge of their services and products
Google has already launched so was hoping for Amazon was close behind
