Echo dot output audio

So I got me a echo dot for Xmas and I Immediately try to plug it in to my not so new Yamaha receiver 7.1 surround sound system  With the help of a Bluetooth receiver. Works butt.... I'm only getting 2.0 Stereo?? Maybe.  My plan was to listen to my prime music library via echo dot and enjoy it in my 7.1 surround.
So out of my 8 speakers only 2 are working with echo dot and I have to pop up the volume way up to get a descent sound.
If anyone have ideas of how to bipass this. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Are you sending signal via BT or directly into amp's  AUDIO IN?

The Dot only outputs stereo from what I understand (any who know for certain, please correct me).
To enhance it with your old receiver, you can probably choose a setting that spreads it around to all speakers.
