Call an Emergency Number?
« on: November 30, 2016, 07:28:06 pm »
My daughter says that she heard the Echo Dot can accept a cammand in case of an emergency. Is this true? I have often fallen and I would like to call my neighbor or daughter if the happens and I need help. Is it possible to say something like "Alexa Emergency Call Karen"?

There is a 3rd party skill called "Ask My Buddy" (http://www.askmybuddy.net/) that you can enable and configure with mobile numbers of people you know, and then use that to have a text sent to one/some/all of them whenever you want.

My suggestion too although so far I've only been able to get it to send an email. I need to check this out but it could be something to do with where the Ask My Buddy app thinks it is and what constitutes an international number, although it hasn't worked with either configuration so far.

Hi All - Just wanted to let you know that Ask My Buddy can send alerts internationally, and is available on the Alexa skill store for U.K. too.
Here is a link to the Help topic for formatting telephone numbers.  https://askmybuddy.net/help.php#h.qejfgul34bhk_New1

Thanks for this. It's just what I needed for contacting my partner when they are away at work, for if I have a problem at home, as I'm wheelchair bound and sometimes fall out of the chair and unable to get back up.  ;)

Just to say, with some very prompt help from Ask My Buddy, the international number issue has been sorted out and alerts go out by email, voice, and text. If you're not in the US though, better warn your contacts that an incoming call from Florida isn't spam!
