Title: Echo Smart Home Alarm Capabilities
Post by: manofzeel on December 15, 2016, 10:10:44 am
I am curious if the Echo can be used to increase your smart home capabilities in a particular way. Can I ask Alexa to set an alarm for me at 6:00AM and at the same time to slowly raise dimmable lights in my home at the time of my alarm.

I'm looking to have my lights raise in the morning as if the sun is quickly rising. If anyone knows how to set Alexa to raise lights slowly at a certain time, let me know!

No, this has been asked many times. Alexa can only do one thing per request. I believe you would need a home automation hub or IFTTT (depending on your lights) to brighten the lights at a certain time of the day.

I think we need a set of stickies somewhere that explain for new folks the basics of what Alexa and Alexa-enabled devices are and what they aren't.  ie, Alexa can act as an interface to various systems like home automation services, but it is not a home automation service or device control hub itself...etc, etc.
