Title: GOOGLE HOME CALLING IS ROLLING OUT!
Post by: malliekm on August 16, 2017, 04:50:29 pm
And I have it :)  Just say "ok Goolgle call xxx" to see if it's hit your GH yet.  I've been doing that daily since May and was shocked when she said "David, at home or on mobile?"  ;D  The sound coming from my GH is PERFECT!  Loud, crisp and clear.  I was shocked since I'm on satellite internet.  My husband said I sounded good, my mother said I sounded garbled (but she understood every word I said).  I'll go with the 59 year old ears vs the 78 year old ears ;)  They both sounded great on my end.  Tiny bit of latency but much less than I expected and much less than Alexa.  Again, that's the satellite connection.

Looks like Google is getting ahead of Amazon on this. But Google had the infrastructure a long time ago with their Google Voice phone service.

MSN article:  http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/google-home-can-now-make-phone-calls-in-the-us-and-canada/ar-AAqcrn6?li=AA4Zoy&ocid=spartandhp

As of this writing, not all Google Home devices can make calls yet. They are rolling it out over the next few days.

I've got mixed reviews from the people I've called. My parents could not hear me well at all on either their cell phone or landline. I call my daughters WiFi phone and she couldn't make heads or tails of the call either. Don't know that has anything to do with her metal roof. I called my husband on his cell phone and he said the reception was perfect. I could hear all of them perfectly through my Google home. I signed up for it and got a gvoice number and will send it to friends and family. If they associate that number with my name in their contacts, my name will show up instead of unknown or private or restricted because nobody answers those calls.

Even though right now you cannot prompt Google home to access a keypad once a call is established,
Many companies have voice recognition to advance a call to the right Department.

I'm also signed up for the Chromecast and Google home preview program where those signed up yet previews of features yet to be released to the public.  You can find this in the device settings of  the Google home app if it's been made available to you.

I read at this time, the caller id will show different numbers and will not always be the same.  I guess it will be similar to skype calls with all the different number you might see.  However google also say the caller id issue will be fixed before the end of the year.  fortunately you can add your google voice number to your calls right now.

If the echo does not allowing calls to landlines and mobile phones soon. I may have to get a google home.

Without a GVoice number the the caller id shows unknown or private, etc.
I didn't have one but created one just for the GH calling feature.  There were no local
GVoice numbers (surprise  ::)) so I chose a Montana area code/number.  What is the purpose of
having a GVoice number (outside the GH calling feature)?
I've made a few calls with it.  Some successful and some not but the quality on
MY end has always been crisp, clear and loud.
renegade you need to quit talking about it and just DO it ;)

it is the one I gave out to stores when they asked for numbers, I posted it when I was selling things through craigslist or advertised in the paper and more.  I gave it to people who could be a problem later on.  The advantage is you can have all calls forward to your real number and they would never know.   and if someone becomes a pain, just change that number without having to contact those who have your real number.

Tested calling late last night to call my cell.  it is now operational at my GH devices.  Sounds pretty good.  I am sure it will be a handy feature.
