Title: Skill that I want to enable doesn't show up on the app?
Post by: tuxgirl on September 11, 2015, 01:21:54 pm
I just got my echo yesterday. Today, I wanted to enable the EchoTTT skill, but it doesn't show up in the list of skills on the alexa app. How can I enable it?

I did notice that there are some skills available that weren't there yesterday, but from what I can see, there isn't a way I can find to determine whether I have all available skills, or to check for new skills available manually.

The device software version for my echo currently is 2606.

What am I missing??? :)

As of this Friday evening, I see a total of 12 skills listed, and I do not see Echo TTT either.

I'm trying, but I can't do step 3, since I can't find the EchoTTT skill to enable?

It's not a skill that you enable from the app.
You just have to login through Amazon.
Here's the help page from Amazon

EchoTTT (and the Waldo skill) can only be enabled if you have a developer account for the Amazon Echo. The skill is not yet available to the general public. The skill was created by a fellow named Matt Kruse. I'm not sure if he has an account here on EchoTalk. If anyone knows him or can contact him, please invite him to join us! :)
He's also the creator of the Guess The Number skill which is currently available in the Echo app.

Jwlv:
Ah, that's what I was missing. I may have to go looking for that. I had actually found a site talking about enabling echottt in the developer console, but the thread was many months old, so I thought it was old hat by now. I will go back and then figure out how to get into the echo developer console. (I haven't done any echo development yet, but have considered doing some...)

Thanks!

If you don't want the complication of signing up for a developer account and enabling app I would go the SmartThings virtual switch to IFTTT Maker route. You don't need their hub for it to work and makes things pretty simple.

Monty, can you give more detail about the SmartThings virtual switch?
I found this page and I don't know if this is what you are referring to: http://thinkmakelab.com/2014/06/11/how-to-create-a-virtual-switch-in-smartthings/

If I were to use the virtual switch, how does it control the Nest thermostat? Can it set the Nest to an exact temperature like EchoTTT?  "Alexa, ... set temperature to 73 degrees."
