Title: Echo Tap can't make phone calls

I have three Echo Dots, one Echo, and one Tap. They all can make phone calls/use messaging except the Tap. Will Tap ever be able to make phone calls? I understood from previous discussions, that there would be a software update to allow Tap to use messaging in a way similar to Echo and Dot, but there was no timeframe. I need to make some decisions and it would be nice to know.
