i just notice my amazon echo has very old software version 2730
i wait for a week, and still not updated
i try force update by setting mute, but still not updated
i'm starting to suspect, maybe need to set port forwarding in my router?
anybody know which port number echo using for software update?

I don't think you need to do anything other than call Echo support if you have a question about this, and they will tell you what you need to do.

i already call echo support and they ask me to send my echo for replacement
my echo arrived couple weeks ago and problem persists
in this case, i really don't think this is hardware issue

I would call back and ask to speak to the next level of support, e.g. Level 2. No one else has asked here for help on this issue. Basically, your router is on the internet or it isn't -- especially if other devices are working. Then again, a replacement Echo didn't seem to help. so who knows what's up.

my echo functions correctly
it's just the software will not update
i will call again echo support tomorrow

Maybe try updating the Alexa app on your phone. You did not mention how long ago you installed the app. There have been numerous updates to the app. It shouldn't affect the Echo but it's something worth trying with minimal effort.

how far is the echo from the router? try placing the echo right next to it overnight. though you are still able to use the echo, maybe there is something crazy going on with the data stream from updates.

Problem resolved
As I suspect, some ports need to be opened in the router
According to amazon technical support, this ports need to be opened:
TCP : 80, 443
UDP : 123, 34434, 40317, 49317
