Title: Nine or more dots all playing the same music
Post by: mark.murphy@aafpets.org on September 01, 2019, 10:54:02 pm
I volunteer at an no-kill animal shelter and am researching low cost approaches to adding music into our cat rooms.  We have as many as 9 in use at a time.  Thinking I can get 9 Dots (not sure if the gen matters) and have one audio stream feed all of them.  Not concerned with quality nor do they need to play different streams.  This is about all they will be used for.  Anyone done this?  From what I have read it looks doable. But we don't have much money and I am reticent to jump into this without being more certain.  Any help is appreciated.

Hi Mark. It  is nice to hear that you volunteer at a no kill animal shelter. Big hearted people are needed in this world.  I am no techie with Alexa devices even though I have half a dozen.  Here is an article that you can read. It sounds like you can do what you want.  I'm sure others will jump in with more tips or reassurance that you can accomplish your goal with the 9 Dots.  https://www.pcmag.com/news/355871/how-to-set-up-a-second-alexa-enable-multi-room-playback

That article was very helpful.  I searched for articles like that, but this is the best one that I have read.  Thanks

The Echo Dot is pretty cheap. Currently only $29.99.
If you buy 3, you can get all three for $69.97. Use coupon code DOT3PK.
I'm not sure how long this promotion is good for.

Here is a direct link to it

Actually I found them for $20 on Belk's site, but there is a 3 dot limit.    Thanks Mark

Someone will screw with your dots. All they need is the wake word to operate them.

That is true.  Someone visiting the cat rooms could change the music or even order things under your account. So make sure to lock it down and disable voice ordering.

However, there is a "kids mode."  It allows you to put certain restrictions on the Dots that you control.  I have never looked into it, except knowing that such a mode does exist.
