It would be helpful if alexa treated a routine like a switch.  There are times, like going on vacation where I don't want certain routines to run.  I have to manually go into a routine to disable it.  If I could just do a new routine like "vacation" and within it have alexa disable the other routine and now run this one it would be very useful.

Sounds like you need to look into an actual home automation system instead of using alexa routines to accomplish things.

Amazon Echo Discussion / WiFi Range Extender.
« Last post by rao4844 on May 25, 2021, 08:38:33 am »
Using the Alexa App, I connect the Echo Dot to the main router and all works well.
I also connect an Amazon Fire tablet.
I have a TP-Link TL-WPA4220 Powerline Adapter /WiFi Range Extender (AV600).
Utilizing a WiFi switcher, the Fire automatically switches to the extender if the main signal is weaker.
The Echo Dot remains connected to the main (initial setup) network signal.
I have now configured the extender to have the same WiFi name and password as the main router.
However, even though the Fire still automatically switches, the Echo Dot remains connected to the primary network, despite the extender having the same name and password.
Is this to be expected or have I set up the Echo Dot incorrectly?

Amazon Echo Discussion / Echo (dot) won't play iHeart radio station
« Last post by wardmd90745 on May 21, 2021, 03:52:59 pm »
Starting yesterday (2021-05-20), none of my "Alexa" devices (dots, or integrated light switches) will play radio stations from iHeart Radio.

The stations WILL play, if I play them from PC or iPhone

Echo Technical Support / Re: All my smart devices are suddenly offline
« Last post by marklyn59 on May 17, 2021, 03:07:43 pm »
I've had a very similar experience and after 2 days of serious troubleshooting and calls to Amazon support, I have most of my devices back online but a couple still not. Plus I still need to go through my list to try to correct incorrect generic names.  I've only had my setup for 7 months.  If this happens again me thinks Alexa and I will be separating and I might start seeing Mr. Google.

I'm not sure if I have one issue causing my post or several.
I installed all of my Alexa devices Aug-Sep 2020.  Everything worked well. Everything named.  It all just worked.
Until now.
In the last few weeks I started to notice a device here and there being described as "unresponsive..." by alexa when I give a command. First is was my corsori toaster oven, then a light here, a switch there.
So after a couple of weeks of putting up with this I voraciously read everything I could regarding troubleshooting these devices that Alexa said was unresponsive or she didn't know that device.  After a couple of days of trying everthing I've read and no real progress in removing and trying to re-add stuff, I called Amazon Alexa support.
The knowledgeable lady spent 90 minutes with me on the phone, repeating all of the troubleshooting steps I had already done and some new ones, still having issues.
Here is a quick breakdown of my issues:
* Some devices that were working fine suddenly are listed as unresponsive and can't be controlled.
* Some devices that I've removed via the app, I'm not able to re-add (Hue lights for example)
* Some devices that I finally re-add are showing up under a generic name after a new discovery yet they now also show up as unresponsive.
* Some devices continue to work as if nothing happened (maybe 50%).
* 90% of my devices are zigbee devices that directly pair with Alexa; 10% need an app to connect to Alexa but devices from both of those categories were affected.

The nice Amazon support lady did finally chat with her manager and did say that what is happening is apparently a known issue and "they have engineers" working on it, but couldn't describe what "it" was.  Based on what I have been experiencing it appears to be on their back end.

Is anyone else experiencing these issues over the last couple of weeks?

Far East Alexa (Asia) / Re: Major Wi-Fi Problems
« Last post by linotab on May 16, 2021, 09:03:09 pm »
I have he same issue on my echo show. tried rebooting or factory reset several times, moved the unit closer to the router but it didn't help at all. All other alexa devices are working fine except my show. Have contacted customer service and told me that the issue maybe on the router blocking my alexa show, when I checked it is not. there were no IP conflict either. If someone had the same issue and was able to solve it...please share the solution. Thank you.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: "coming home" function
« Last post by jwlv on May 16, 2021, 11:47:28 am »
You can use IFTTT to set up a geofence on your phone. IFTTT calls these things recipes. You would create a recipe to detect that you (your phone) has come home and then play music on your Echo device.

IFTTT used to be completely free. There is a limited free version now. I'm not sure if geofencing is part of the free version. I haven't used IFTTT in a few years.

There are probably other ways to do the same thing without using IFTTT. This is just one way that I thought of immediately.

Echo Technical Support / Routine timing problem
« Last post by PAFOS on May 15, 2021, 07:42:43 am »
My objective was to play BBC radio 4 starting at a defined time every day for a timed period. Now, using BBC sounds, total waste of time as it just does not work correctly so I use simple radio skill which has a 95 % working record !!. If I use my voice and say play "TIMES RADIO" for 10 minutes it does it perfectly ,if  I do the same with a routine it plays the radio station then turns off after the set time OK. Now if I do the same using a skill such as simple radio or BBC Sounds  it plays the radio station but never turns it off at the set time. So the problem is skill related. Do some skills not recognise the additional time request?
