Title: Pair Fire TV voice activated remote with Echo?

We have Echo set up and running.  Just bought the Amazon Fire TV Stick with voice activated remote.  Not able to figure out how to use the remote (e.g from another room) to work with the Echo. 

I have gone to the Alexa app and followed instructions on pairing  a device remote (holding play button for 5 seconds, etc).  Even took out the batteries and tried again (numerous times).  Echo simply cannot find the remote. 

What am I missing?

I tried to use the fire tv voice remote with Echo and it just won't work. The app just won't pair the voice remote to the Echo.
