Title: Broadlink RM2
Post by: Maff on September 16, 2016, 07:41:03 am
If anyone else has one of these (like a no frills Harmony Hub, except can send RF commands too), and if you have an android device, there is a RM Tasker plugin which can automate commands to all sorts of devices, which are not meant to be smart devices, but can be used as such (LED Candles, cheap Remote controlled LED Coloured bulbs, or almost anything with an RF remote).

Its less polished than Harmony, but can control a whole lot more gadgets... and the best bit, is the fantastic unofficial developer who created the tasker plugin, has just added an Alexa bridge to the app too!

So now, ANY device you want to control, (anything with an inrfrared remote, or RF remote along the 300mhz or 400mhz range which is most devices),  shows up in the Alexa app as a Wemo device (on/off type control), and can be controlled by a command.

There are a few bugs, which are often being fixed the next day after being found. The developer is really on the ball.
I have it working, and now even my cheap £10 RF remote control plug sockets are working as promptly as a wemo device via command. Far cry from using IFTTT or Pushbullet to send commands to the Broadlink unit which I did before.

The Unit (Broadlink RM2) is about $33/£25 on ebay, so is a really low cost device, which will turn a bunch of stuff you probably already own into Echo compatible devices (and an android device lying around &some tech smarts do help!).

You would need the tasker app, and the RM LInk Tasker plugin both for android.

Thanks for this post. It is very intriguing. Is there any site or location with step by step instructions on how to setup up control of cheap RF controlled devices with Echo.

It's pretty easy to get the codes learnt through either the official broadlink app, or within the rm tasker plugin. You just create a device, learn (single), swap frequency (then press the remote button & it figures out the frequency, it then says its ready) then you give your remote button another press. You give it a name.. Done! You can subsequently create a tasker task with that button as an action.  They world is your oyster after that. You do need to import your configured codes into the tasker plugin. It's really simple to do that too, you just share from the official app, and suddenly all your codes are in the plugin.

The Alexa Bridge is working fine. Once you have created your codes, you enable the alexa bridge, create a 'device' and define what virtual button press you want to action when the 'device' is triggered (you define what button you want to send when you command it to on/off). Once you have your devices all set, you do a discover devices on your echo, and your device appears on your alexa app. (they appear as wemo devices as far as alexa is concerned). You can command them on or off subsequently, and the RM2 will dutifully turn on or off any infrared or rf device you have configured.

So that Alexa Bridge is in their App? Cos I looked on the website and see zero reference to Alexa..

And links?

Cheers,

Thanks. If it is not too much to ask, could you please walk us through a step by step process to setup this device to control with Echo? I have familiarity with Alexa setup to control wemo devices. However, I am not aware of tasker etc.? Do I need a separate dedicated android device (other than my cell phone) to set this up? Are the tasker app and plugin two different apps which need to be purchased in play store? Do I need to use the broadlink app in addition to the tasker apps?
Thanks again for this solution for controlling standard RF and IR equipment.

Items needed:
-Broadlink RM Device
-Broadlink e-Control app (free - Google Play Store)
-Broadlink RM Tasker Plugin ($5.49 - Google Play store) or the Trial version (to test it out)

Follow these instructions until you get to "Set up your Android Bridge":  https://goo.gl/Z4IBA6 (https://goo.gl/Z4IBA6)
The reason why you stop at "Set up your Android Bridge" is because these instructions were created before an Alexa Bridge was added to the RM Tasker Plugin.

Start RM Tasker Plugin & click on "Import new data from eControl app" and follow the instructions to import the codes from the eControl app into the RM Tasker Plugin.

Once you have imported all of your codes into Tasker, enable "Alexa Bridge" and follow Maff's instructions.

Thanks, inconnu_homme.
So, it appears that I would need to install the e-control app and tasker plugin on a dedicated android device at home and not on my cell phone if others in my family want to control devices using broadlink while I am not at home. Correct?

Yes. RM Tasker is the important one because it needs to be running in the background on a dedicated Android device connected to your network.  Initially you need eControl just learn all of the remote codes.

Excellent. Appreciate the feedback. Already ordered the broadlink and bunch of etekcity combo packs. Look forward to setting it up.

Thanks for this. Haven't checked back in a few days. I will say now I am a week in to having the setup, things to watch out for are:

A dedicated android device is needed to at home in order for it to work all the time, and also because the alexa bridge does drain the battery quicker, so better to be able to charge twice a day or keep it plugged in more of the time.

You will also need a fixed IP Address on the Android device.  This can be done on Android settings, however if it is a mobile device which potentially will be taken elsewhere, I prefer to instead set a permanent ip on the DHCP server on my home router. This means you can still have your mobile device happily work with other WiFi setups without issues, but at home your router will always give out the same ip address to your Android device.

Another thing I have experienced is that the alexa bridge seems to become unresponsive after a few hours (alexa can't find the devices). This is solved by briefly loading the app,and it comes back to life.  If it isn't something peculiar to my setup, I  imagine the developer will sort this soon. As a temporary work around I have set a tasker task to wake up the screen and load the app on an hourly basis.

Will be interesting to hear others experiences.

What version of Android are you running?  If Marshmallow....maybe your phone is Dozing.

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought as I have a bunch of stuff I use on my marshmallow devices which need background services and I'm used to configuring it all. The devices I have had the bridge on are both lollipop so Doze not applicable. One device had Samsung smart manager which I made sure was not touching tasker or the plugin /bridge etc. Now I have the tasker scheduled wake up of the app it has worked flawlessly for a couple days now. Fine for the moment, but if I get to the bottom of it I'll report it here.

Thanks.  I'm not very familiar with Tasker.  When you say "wake up the app," I'm assuming the RM Tasker Plugin...correct?  So, I would create a Task to run the plugin, and then create a profile to run it every hour.  Am I doing this right?

So I got everything working well with my Alexa, new RM2, a samsung galaxy S3 and a few etekcity modules. However, I am experiencing the same thing as above where after being dormant for the night, Alexa says 'device is not responding' when I try to use it it in the morning. Everything works again when I 'wake' up the Samsung galaxy S3.
Could you please outline the steps for creating the tasker scheduled wake up of the bridge app as you have described above?
Thanks

Does it start working again by just waking up your Galaxy S3?  If so, then you just need to run a Tasker profile to wake your phone at a certain interval.

You will need Tasker and Secure Settings Plugin (by intagibleObject).

- Start Tasker > TASKS tab  > click on the "+" at the bottom.
- Give your new task a name > for example "Wake Device" and click on the check mark.
- Click on the "+" on the bottom of the screen to add an action.
- Select Plugin  >  Secure Settings
- Click on the pencil icon next to Configuration.
- Click on Actions and select Wake Device.
- Choose Wake Type - Screen& Keyboard Lights On and Duration - 1 Second.
- Click on the floppy icon to save.
- Exit back out to the main screen and click on the PROFILES tab.
- Click in the "+" and select Time.
- Uncheck From and To, and check Repeat.
- Enter your desired interval you want to wake your device.  I would enter 2 min so you can test if your Tasker profile works.
- Exit out of this screen by clicking the top left-hand corner.
- Select Wake Device from the popup window.

Your profile has now been created. Turn it on and it should wake your device every 2 min.  If your Tasker profile is working correctly, edit your Tasker Profile by long pressing on the clock icon.  Then you can enter a new time interval.

Note:  Your notification bar will say "No active profiles."  That is because your created profile is only active for 1 sec, every 2 min.

Hope this helps.

Great. Thanks for these detailed. I will try to set this wake up task in tasker. I get a feeling I might need to setup actual periodic reactivation of the RM plugin and just the waking up of the phone might not suffice.

As an update, my problems with the RM2 bridge not working after a night of inactivity went away without creating any tasks in tasker. So perhaps I just needed to reboot the phone running the bridge or they update the software for the bridge!

Another request for suggestions around my setup:
I have a lasko tower fan in my living room which came with a IR remote. This fan can now be controlled by RM2 when the RM2 is placed in the line of sight directly in front of the fan.
If I move the RM2 to another room, I could plug the fan into a etekcity RF module. If I send a 'on' command to the RF module, I still would need to have another 'on' command from the line of sight IR remote. Is there a path for circumventing the need for the IR command. Or do I just need to buy a 'dumb' fan which does not come with a remote and plug it into a RF module?!

Thanks!

So, a new problem has arisen!
I upgraded my modem today and now the tasker plugin is no longer working. I can still control the switches from the broadlink app on the phone. But when I command Alexa, she says 'device is not responding'. The tasker still shows all the correct codes. I reimported them from the broadlink app but no dice.
Seems like it might be something to do with creating the static IP which I did not do initially (not sure how to do it!).
Any advice is much appreciated.

If all you are concerned with is on/off, then a simple fan with an Etekcity outlet should work.  If you want to control speed/oscillation (assuming you have those programmed into the Broadlink RM Pro), then you can buy a Broadlink RM Mini and place that in your other room.

I could be wrong, but a static ip was only necessary when using an HTTP Bridge.  When RM Tasker added an Alexa Bridge, then a static ip was not needed (once again, I'm assuming here).  Creating a static ip depends on your router.  Each router has its own menu and some cheaper routers do not have that capability.  Google your specific router + static ip.

Before going down that road, I would just clear the data/cache of RM Tasker, delete the devices from Alexa, and start over from there.  If it is still not working, then look into creating a static ip.

Indeed. The simplest solution is to buy a fan which does not come with its own IR remote and plug it into a etekcity outlet. Makes me chuckle at the paradox of it - need to dumb down the fan in order to make it smarter for voice control with alexa! Thanks for your input. Just ordered two fans which specifically state that they dont come with a remote.

You are right. I could get it to work by deleting the devices from Alexa and then adding them again. It is kind of painful that you have to enter all of the outlets again in the plugin for Alexa to discover but I hope that is the case only when you switch out the modem or the router.

If it stops working in a week or two (depending on your internet provider), then it might be a static ip issue.  Then you would have to look into using a free dynamic DNS service like noip

Just thought I'd point out that Becky's code works just fine with the RM Bridge app which is totally free as opposed to the tasker app.  The tasker app was also less reliable when we initially tested it which is why she rewrote it to work with RM Bridge.

I took the static ip thing for the alexa Bridge to mean it needs a static internal ip address, ie your dchp server needs to dish out the same ip address to your phone/Tablet. This may be why it stopped when the other chap changed his router, alexa was thinking the alexa Bridge was elsewhere.

I found that waking up my phone & rm tasker app once an hour has been enough to make any issues dissapear, without making the phone drain of power so quickly,so the phone can still sleep but still work. The developer may have fixed the issue now, but I wouldn't know as it's been working fine either way.

Hi

Anybody know how many devices alexa can discover?

I am  setting up the tasker plugin

Alexa only discovers a few devices at a time. and seems to have trouble recognising more than about 25 devices on my system.

the 20 second discovery process seems a bit short maybe?

Has anyone got over 30 devices working?

cheers

Not sure but the Alexa app says 73 Smart Home devices found.  Out of those, 21 are Broadlink controlled devices.  Keep in mind I am using RM Bridge instead of RM Tasker because I also use a SmartThings hub.  This setup has been so much better for me than just using RM Tasker.

Hi peeps.

I am new to the Alexa (just got the dot 2nd gen) and I'm having trouble with my device discovery.

I have a couple of plugs, 1 rmpro and 2rm3. But my echo can't seem to find it.

I am quite familiar with tasker and I've been using the RM tasker plugin (with autovoice) thru my phone. That's why I got the dot because I saw on the Alexa integration on RM plugin and I wanted to have a permanent voice control at home (without using my phone)

My RM Tasker (bridge) is on an android box (with direct LAN connection and static ip) and my Amazon Alexa app is on my phone (also with static ip assigned manually from my router). I've tried resetting and all but it cant find the device.

I followed the steps, but I can't make it work.

Thanks in advance for those who can help me out.

Hope my echo dot purchase wont be a waste... :(

I am pretty sure that the connection needs to be wireless for the plugin to work.

Also tried logging out and back in on the Amazon Alexa app.

And Im about to grab a stick and just hit this puck! :)

Any other suggestions?

If you read the reviews on RM Tasker, you will see others are having the same issue of Alexa not discovering your devices.  Not sure what is happening in your case, but maybe your router is blocking a necessary port?

It's more involved, but I would use RM Bridge instead.  I run this on a wired android box and it has been more reliable than RM Tasker.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try the bridge (and I hope I can follow the instructions correctly).

Will post an update soon.

 ;)

Hi!

Just to update... I was able to use my Android TV box (with Static IP assignment) to be the RM Tasker (Alexa hub). I had to start from scratch (twice, actually) to make it work. But for Echo to discover every control/device, I needed to perform device discovery a lot of times. It also required me to reset the tv box a few times as well in order for echo to see the other devices. It took some time, but it worked.

It also helps to assign a static IP for the echo dots. commands become a bit faster... :)

Cheers, everyone!

Good to hear you are making progress

I also have mine working now (with 26 devices)

For one of the devices which was not recognized I deleted it and set it up identically (which worked)

My bridge is wireless as I could not get it to work on Ethernet

Cheers

Cheers, everyone!

Good to hear its working out for you.  I (and many others) have had the problem with RM Tasker timing out for some reason or another.  So if your commands suddenly stop working, this might be the case.  To get around this, I used regular Tasker to wake up RM Tasker every hour.  As you just experienced, RM Tasker is very finicky.  That's why I ultimately switched to the more stable RM Bridge.

Same happened to me - initially successfully configured RM Tasker Lite - worked like a charm, fast, very usable.
Later decided to switch to full version, purchased it, deleted lite version - and had no luck configuring the full RM Tasker. Alexa cannot find the devices I had created. Tried deleting old devices from Alexa app, rebooting all devices - did not help :(

Thank you,  inconnu_homme.
I just installed Broadlink RM Tasker Lite app V1.5.4 but looks like it doesn't support my Broadlink RM Pro.
It shows "Device is currently not supported" red color error on the device list in Broadlink RM Tasker Lite app.
The eControl app works well with my Broadlink RM Pro. I see my codes from eControl on code list in Broadlink RM Tasker Lite app also.
I have reinstalled both apps and reimported data from eControl to Broadlink RM Tasker but still no luck.  :'(

Not sure what's going wrong with your setup.  Seems like all Broadlink devices are supported according to RM Tasker's compatibility list.  First thing I would check is to see if the Broadlink's firmware is up to date.  You should find this in the e-Control app settings.  If it still doesn't work, I would email the developer.  You should see his contact into at the top when you run the RM Tasker Plugin app.

I emailed the RM Tasker developer about this issue yesterday. Still no response yet.

If you get tired of waiting and you are familiar with port forwarding and setting up a dynamic DNS service, you can try using RM Bridge instead of RM Tasker.  It's more involved, but RM Bridge is much more stable than RM Tasker.

Here are the instructions:  https://github.com/beckyricha/Broadlink-RM-SmartThings-Alexa/blob/master/RM%20Bridge%20Cloud%20Readme.md

RM Bridge works even better if you have a SmartThings hub.  No need to open up a port and use a DNS service.

I'm trying RM Bridge now. Got stuck at the step of "Add your devices to SmartThings":
  • smartthings.com site shows "A Device must have either a Location or a Hub" error when I try to create a new device but both 'Location' and 'Hub' dropdown lists are empty. Nothing to select for them.
  • SmartThings mobile app asks a code to setup after login at the first launch but I don't have a SmartThings Hub with a code.
Maybe some steps in the RM Bridge instructions are out of date.  :-\

You have to set up a Location in the SmartThings web interface.  Try to Log into here:  https://graph-na02-useast1.api.smartthings.com/login/auth

After logging in, click on My Locations (at the top) and then on the green New Location button.  Add a new location and name it, for example "Broadlink".   Then when you add a device by clicking on My Devices > + New Device, "BroadlinK" will show up in the Location drop down menu.

Also, you do not use the SmartThings app, since you do not have a SmartThings Hub.  You just need to make sure to properly add the Broadlink devices to your SmartThings account (with the "Broadlink" location) using the web interface.  After you do that, you need to install the SmartThings Alexa skill using the Alexa app.  After you install the skill and link your SmartThings account, then Alexa should add your SmartThings devices when you run Device Discovery.

No problem.  Here's how to connect your SmartThings account to Alexa:  https://support.smartthings.com/hc/en-us/articles/205275404-How-to-connect-Amazon-Alexa-with-SmartThings

Step 9 is where you would choose your created location.  I have not tried this method because I have a SmartThings hub.  RM Tasker was too unstable for me.  I switched to RM Bridge and got a SmartThings hub because I wanted to add home automation.

Just follow the directions.  The only thing missing from them is setting up a "Location", which you would use instead of a hub.  I mentioned how to create a Location few posts above.  If you are not going to get a physical hub, then I would try RM Tasker first.  This will save you from having to deal with dynamic DNS.

I've got an echo dot and I have it working with a Broadlink RM2 with my Samsung Smart TV. It works well. I'm using custom code from python-broadlink at https://github.com/mjg59/python-broadlink and HA-Briridge at https://github.com/bwssytems/ha-bridge running on a MacBook pro. It all works fine  for the Samsung smart TV.

I want to use the Echo Dot to control my Dish Hopper and Joey as well, so I picked up a Dish 20.0 IR Remote. I've tested the remote on my Hopper and Joey and it works just fine. I also looked at the data coming into and out of the Broadlink RM2. It is seeing the IR data when in "learning mode" and transmitting the data but it isn't working with the dish devices.

I even went so far as to try to use the Broadlink e-Control app on my iPhone. I can control the Samsung Smart TV using the e-Control app but if I try to use it with the dish remote it doesn't work. I've come to the conclusion that the Broadlink RM2 doesn't work with DISH even in IR mode.  :'(

So my question is has anyone gotten a Broadlink RM2 to work with a Dish Receiver at all (with or without an Echo involved)?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Paul Carrick

Mystery solved (sort of). The Broadlink is VERY sensitive to positioning with the Hopper or Joey.

While the DISH IR remote worked several feet away. The Broadlink has to be in a very exact position: not too close, not too far, not too high up and not too low down (within a 1 foot square area about a foot away from the Hopper or Joey).

Once I got the positioning right it works consistently.

So I have gotten the RM Bridge icon to stay green.  This took putting my Android device on a static IP.  Does the static IP for my Android bridge need to be the same for the Broadlink RM Pro or do I need to open the port on my router that the RM Bridge is reporting?

This is all new to me so THANK YOU for your patience and understanding.

So I opened the port on my router that was shown on RM Bridge.  I opened the port to the static IP of my Android bridge.  Is this correct?  So now the RM Bridge app goes to a green circle but when I go to load devices....There is a very quick swirl on the top left and then nothing.

What are the next steps????

Not sure what you mean by "load devices".  What app are you seeing the swirl?

Also, not sure what instructions you are using, but since you have a SmartThings hub, you should be using this one: https://github.com/beckyricha/Broadlink-RM-SmartThings-Alexa/blob/master/RM%20Bridge%20LAN%20Readme.md

I'm hoping I can improve on this a bit more.  I have an IR remote to control the blinds in the bathroom.  Currently, I'm using Alexa to turn on blinds up and turn on blinds down.  Is there a way to configure the setup so that Alexa can understand up/down ie. Alexa, set blinds up?

So I opened the port on my router that was shown on RM Bridge.  I opened the port to the static IP of my Android bridge.  Is this correct?  So now the RM Bridge app goes to a green circle but when I go to load devices....There is a very quick swirl on the top left and then nothing.

What are the next steps????

I wonder if you mean load devices on this page http://rm-bridge.fun2code.de/rm_manage/code_learning.html
Once you entered you lan address on that page, load devices should detect your broadlink and display it on step two. Just need to scroll down and see if the little blue dropdown box has your broadlink device.  BTW, this is for RM1/2 devices. If you got a RM mini 3 (IR only) then you need to do the workaround in RM bridge app's description http://goo.gl/NLKxnW. Hope this will get you to the next step in instruction!

Hi guys, i stumbled onto this forum after successfully setting up my 2 echo dots, broadlink rm 2 pro, broadlink tc2 light switches. I'm using a cheap android TV box (MXQ pro 4k) running the rm tasker app as the alexa bridge.

It took me almost 3 weeks to iron out all the issues and now everything's running smoothly.

I can't proclaim to be an expert but I'll try to assist if anyone is intending to run a similar home automation setup  ;)

I tried becky's rm bridge but got stuck at the learning devices part. In my opinion, rm tasker is more convenient if your setup involves the rm pro and tc2 light switches as the controls can be imported from broadlink's e-control app into rm tasker right in the app itself.

The current version of rm tasker in play store is 1.6.8. It's stable and I've had it running for almost a week without problems and alexa was able to find the devices without re-discovering.

Also, the app developer changed his codes such that devices appear as philips hue lights and there's no longer a limit of 25 devices.

Just to clarify, I've set my android TV box never to go to sleep.

Several people have reported this issue lately and resolved it by updating the broadlink firmware. I'm not certain but it may be only a version of firmware that ends in 24. Versions ending in 22 and 25 I've confirmed working. There is also a forum on my projects pages or you could pull issues in GitHub if you're more in that mode. Thanks for the pointer on the location in the instructions too. That wasn't always required but i had that trouble earlier today as well.

The new forum and other discussions are now at htyp://beckyricha.github.io

The Alexa Bridge is working fine. Once you have created your codes, you enable the alexa bridge, create a 'device' and define what virtual button press you want to action when the 'device' is triggered (you define what button you want to send when you command it to on/off). Once you have your devices all set, you do a discover devices on your echo, and your device appears on your alexa app. (they appear as wemo devices as far as alexa is concerned). You can command them on or off subsequently, and the RM2 will dutifully turn on or off any infrared or rf device you have configured.

I'm getting the impression the Alexia can only handle on/off ?  I'm looking for things like  TV Volume /Up/Down, Mute TV, etc  ??  Am I expecting too much ?

Do you have a link to the newer firmware? The app isn't locating it.

I contacted ibroadlink support about updating the firmware this was their reply:

Dear Customer
You can forget that message. Firmware update is not a sign of improving or more function.  We don't suggest customer do the firmware update usually.
Really! ??? :o
Why bother creating firmware upgrades or having the option to update at all then? Obviously this person didn't understand!
I followed up stating I had a issue and if there was not a update then could they send me a link to a older version.
They followed up with a link which was to be for 20026 thought it comes up as being 20025 once done.
At least the learn function now appears to work from
http://rm-bridge.fun2code.de/rm_manage/code_learning.html
Before it didn't even see my broadlink  ;)

Yes the learning function of RM2 pro will allow u to do that. u can then assign a code to that.

Hello,

To anyone thats device was falling asleep I can confirm I am also using a cheap android box with the latest plugin versions and mine has been runing for a month with no reboots or anything.

I wouldnt recommend using a tablet or phone for safety alone as they would be constantly charging. Stick to an android box with the required android versions, they burn very little power and cost about £20.

I dont have a static IP but I do DHCP reservation in my router.

They are all connected on wireless 2.4g also.

I am also happy to help anyone out.

MOA.

Hi all

Im running on an android box and its a bit up and down. Especially when registering new devices.

Running from an Android 4.2.2 box, alexa dot and rm-pro. At the bottom o the page im seeing this:

There are 0/1 servers (25 devices) ative in the Alwxa Brige on interface...etc.

Prior to tonight's device list update I had '1/1 servers', any idea how to get this back? I've rebooted wi-fi, rm plugin, etc but no joy.

Thanks in advance

R u running RM Tasker as the bridge?

Try to set a static IP in your router settings for all your devices, including the echo dot, RM pro. It could be that the IP was refreshed and the bridge app lost the connection

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. I am German and located in the UK. I am using an amazon.co.uk account and the British English version of Alexa.

I have had two Echo Dots for a while and I bought the Broadlink RM Pro last week and got the RM plugin app. Everything went fine until I asked Alexa to discover devices. This she can't do.

After ruling out everything else, RM plugin support told me:

"That means Alexa device is totally unable to communicate with your Android device at all.
Since you have already tried 3 different android brands, the only conclusion we can say is there is some settings in your router that blocks UDP broadcast traffic.
This is the protocol that Alexa uses to initially trigger a discovery request."

I am not sure where to go from here. I looked at the browser interface of my router (Asus DSL-N55U) but, being very ignorant of  what most of it means, could not find any clear solution.

Can anyone offer some advice?

Thanks a lot!

I solved the issue. If anyone has similar problems in the future (I am using the RM Pro):

These UDP ports need to be open:

123
443
4070
5353
40317
49317
33434

I went into the option "port forwarding" on my browser interface. I also had to put in the IP address of the Android device I am using for RM plugin.

However, Alexa still failed to find the new devices when I gave the voice command. Using the app (Smart Home > Devices > Discover) was much more reliable.

Can anyone recommend an Android TV box or stick which works well with Alexa?

I downloaded the latest version of e-control today and it linked me to another broadlink bit of software that supports Alexa via a skill and not a bridge. ( Ihc) My joy  was short-lived when I couldn't find the skill due to it being for US and not UK (At the moment?). Can anyone confirm if this finally means the US alexa can access rm pro without an android bridge or do you still need one?
Title: Re: Broadlink RM2

The software is available in the US as is the skill.
I posted about both here: http://www.echotalk.org/index.php/topic,2262.0.html
you can only control AV devices via Alexa and alexa will not see RF devices configured yet.
So depending on what you use the Broadlink for you may beable to get by with just the skill.

The Alexa Skill wasn't available in North America when I first loaded the IHC app so I emailed the developer asking when it would be released to North America.
The Next day I got a reply and the Skill was there. Not sure if that was just a coincidence but a email to the developer may speed things up for the UK release. ;)

The Broadlink skill uses new Entertainment capabilities for Smart Home skills, which allow them to control TVs, AV receivers, and IR hubs, and which are currently only available in the US (Amazon says UK and Germany support is coming soon), so the developer hasn't really got any control over this. Also, the way I understand it, it appears that Amazon don't allow a single Smart Home skill to support both Entertainment devices and other device types (switches, etc.). This is presumably why the Broadlink skill doesn't support RF.

Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum and need some help on my rm2 pro link up with echo dot.
Currently I have all my remote added to rm bridge and working well on web trigger control, smartthings i have created location, device & device handler already input the ip that my android tvbox running rm bridge address and able to find the devices with alexa discovery, also the smartthings skill enabled. I have open the router UDP port 7474, 123, 443, 4070, 40317, 49317, 33434 to the android box running the rm bridge. Now the problem is dot cannot control rm2 pro at all, totally no response. Am I missing anything that smartthings needed to talk with rm bridge?

Device I am using: Echo Dot x 2, RM2 Pro x 2, Asus RT-AC88U, RM Bridge.

Hi all,
I am new to your forum so please excuse me if I have posted in the wrong area.  It is a long post so you have an idea of where I am at and where I would like to go with the RM Pro and Alexa...
It is fantastic to see so many people tinkering with Alexa in so many ways...I view her as the standout low level AI currently accessible to people like me.

To give you a bit of an idea where I am currently with AI incorporation into home automation...
I have...
X1 Echo Dot
X1 Broadlink RM Pro
X2 Sonoff 4-gang wifi switches
Multiple iOS devices
Many electronic devices I am endeavouring to control via Alexa with the initial focus being centred on creating speaker 'zones/compartments' throughout my house, man cave and also outside the house.  I enjoy music and for me it is the perfect test bench for voice control home automation.

I am located in Tasmania (small island State at the southern most tip of Australia)...I mention this due to the added technical challenges my geographical location adds to utilising Alexa herself.  Amazon is only just starting to try and enter our country officially and therefore we have zero support and a few technical difficulties when trying to make use of the AI.

As it stands Alexa controls the Sonoff wifi 4-gang switches straight out of the box.  They are incredibly cheap and as they can handle both low volt DC and mains AC they are perfect for many applications.  Thier primary use for me to begin with is to switch on/off pairs of speakers I have dotted in & around my house.  The relays are extremely low impedance so having the speaker wires directly spliced into the relays doesn't seem to present a problem.  It is worth noting I am running the many varied speakers from a 'middle of the range' Yamaha Amplifier that does have existing capacity for two zones.  However two zones doesn't cover my needs...ERGO my need for creating multiple zones via the Sonoff relays with the added bonus of Alexa doing the background leg work.

I tinkered with Alexa controlling the Yamaha Amplifier through IP commands e.g. XML etc.  but this became overly complicated and required me to do a crash course in coding...bothersome to say the least.

Then I found the Broadlink RM Pro online and purchased one to see how truly 'universal' it was.  To my amazement it immediately did all it was touted as being able to do.  It even learned the codes to control some derivative Chinese branded TV I have sitting in the kitchen...which none of the various Logitech Harmony universal remotes I have owned have ever been able to learn/mimic.

So now I have given you a run down of my situation and my immediate goals I will outline my current situation as it relates to Alexa and the Broadlink RM Pro...

As it stands I am using the latest IHC app in conjunction with the associated e-control broadlink app and Alexa is able to turn on/off etc. my amp (plus my Plasma TV in the same room).  Once I figured out the only way Alexa is able to control a device (any device) is by pretending it is a TV in the app itself and customising/learning the appropriate IR codes for the device such as the Yamaha Amp...I was up and going.

However I am now at the stage I would like to add 'scenes' to Alexa's ability to control devices.  I have 'programmed' scenes in both the IHC app and also the Broadlink e-control app to do something simple e.g. Power on the zone 2 function of the amp, however in the Alexa app itself she can't find any scenes in the smart home section of her skills.  I know the button to turn on the Amps Zone 2 is functional as pressing it in the IHC app GUI works.  The scene I have created in the apps is simply a one step process...initialise this one button that turns Zone 2 on/off.

I would really appreciate any thoughts, suggestions or solutions to this niggling little issue.

Cheers
Ed

Hi all again,
Because of the many conversations that talk about the android tasker app running in the background that acts as a negotiater between Alexa and the RM Pro I thought I would clearly state I don't use this method.  I simply use the latest IHC and e-control apps and customise TV remotes to suit my needs as in the case of the Yamaha amp.

As you can see in the linked vid I am able to the control the TV in more than just simple on/off commands...it is worth noting the little flat panel TV is the troublesome Chinese TV I mentioned previously...but the RM Pro and Alexa deal with it no problems at all.

It is also worth noting that I haven't been drinking in the vid...my voice is slow and jittery because I had just woken up after a night shift ;)

Alexa will not acknowledge the Broadlink as seen it will see IR devices you have configured in the IHC.
The Broadlink Alexa skill will only currently see TVs or set top boxes (if your area is supported).
In order to control other IR entertainment devices (DVD, VCR, PVR, SAT....) with Alexa and the Broadlink they need to be configured as a TV

The lack of Alexa skill in UK is annoying 😣.  IHC is frustrating too in its lack of options. I had a look in the APK file and there are loads of other icons that you aren't able to access. Even if you upload them via custom I can't see a way of choosing them for your own remote.

Just ordered an RM Pro 3 today, $38.99 from Amazon. Should be here on Friday. I'm excited to try it out after a disappointing experience with Logitech Harmony Hub (slow, unreliable, cumbersome to setup).
I considered the RM Mini 3 for $19.35 but it doesn't have RF control. I really like the idea of RF so I can control my ceiling fans. I plan to put the RM Pro 3 next to the TV and it should be able to reach the two ceiling fans via RF.

The IHC took me a bit to get the hang of. You would have though setup would be simular to the econtrol app.
I haven't looked into the APK to see what all Icons exist but I do have access to lots and can access custom ones
once you have your device setup  click on it then click more.
once that screen opens click top right icon ( beside device name) then select settings you can change the icon from there. ;)

The RF range is actually decent I get over 50 feet and through 2  walls. The learning of RF works best at 2 feet

Got the RM Pro today and I like how easy it was to set up to work with my TV.
But the deal breaker was whenever I tried to scan/learn an RF remote, the app closes (crashes). The remote is within the 433 MHz scan range of the RM Pro. Alas, it doesn't work for what I need it to do. It's going back :(
I'm going to get the RM Mini instead just to control my TV. It costs half of the RM Pro.

I was able to enable the Alexa Broadlink skill by switching to the US in amazon and it worked, but it forgot all of my SmartThings/Nest/Hue devices.  Now that I'm back to UK in Amazon and have rediscovered all my devices Broadlink skill does not appear as an enabled skill. I am able to turn on the tv on and off through Alexa, but that is about it.  The other thing is IHC only appears to recognise television as a working device.  I cannot add set top box, to attempt configuraron with SKY box or DVD, etc.  I suspect we may need to wait a bit longer until Broadlink get their act together and make things work and configure correctly.  Has anyone had any luck getting anything other than a tv to work through Alexa, UK, USA or anywhere else?  Very Frustrating!   >:(

1) With IHC app. it appears there is not a way to turn on  both the TV & Cable Box with one command, like Alexia turn TV on ?

Does this RM tasker app contain logic to prevent it from sleeping ? If not, any recommendations. It is running on a Galaxy tab, android 6.

Yes you can, here's how I do it.
1:Create both devices in IHC
2:In your Alexa app create a group and add the TV and Cable box
3: for the group name give it something which Alexa can't confuse with something else.
if you used TV as the TV device name in IHC you can't use TV for the group name.
I use "NEWS" since that is what I basically use it for. ;)

Yes you can, though I only used it (trial) briefly.
I believe the tasker app needs the Broadlink e-control app to work
If I remember you needed to set tasker up as a server.
As for sleeping I believe that is an Android system setting I never had issue with it seeping on my Galaxy S

I currently use the RM Bridge running on my GalaxyS and have no issues when the phone screen shuts off.

I saw a comment posted on a Youtube video that the IHC App for Broadlink, will NOT work with the  black bean RM mini black bean hub ?  Anyone know if that is still the case ?

That is true. IHC will only recognize the the RM Pro. If you have the RM Mini, you have to use the eControl app.

I'm in the UK and have tried switching to Amazon US to get the Broadlink Alexa Skill. I succeeded in getting in adding the skill and getting my device showing from the IHC app, but Alexa just kept saying there was a problem accessing it. I tried this a number of times without success, so eventually gave up and switched back to Amazon UK.
I already had the e-control app and RM Tasker working with basic on and off functions, so will have to stick with that until Broadlink both release the skill in the UK, and add more devices to IHC that work.
Come on Broadlink, you are selling these brilliant remote controllers in the UK, so how about giving us the apps and skills to really get the best from them?

I need to change the password on my WiFi router, what is the best way to reset the password on the rm pro ?  I hate to 'delete' the decie in the broadlink app and loose all my scenes, learned remotes, etc.

The IHC app is not that bad, but what do I need to 'say' to Alexia for the up/down arrows, play,ok exit , etc. ? I assumed the button 'label' I see in the app, but not in all cases. For example the  mute button label is 'silent', but saying mute works.

Using the Alexia 'group' feature to power on the TV and cable box is a great 'scene' work around.

It sounds like you have got the IHC app partly working with Alexa. Would you mind advising what country you are in, as I've not had any success here in the UK and I emailed Broadlinks support team who responded with this
There is no plan to work with the Alexa on TV control in USA, not support to work in the other areas, and there is no plan to work with it, thanks!
So it sounds like they won't be working on TV control via Alexa. Damn

thats not good news. it makes little sense as people will buy products that do support alexa instead without the need to use the likes of RM plugin.

USA.  It word be nice if the IHC developer would answer questions.  I would think that thousands of  rm pro devices would sell. The device and app are very flexible and work most times.

Since the developer works for Broadlink it may be best to direct questions to them, not the app developer.
Broadlink has two official apps IHC and eControl. I'm not sure if the same developer works on both but you could try that developers contact info as well. ;)

The response I posted the other day was from Broadlink support. I asked them when we can expect the Broadlink Alexa Skill to be made available in the UK, as this is needed to make the IHC app work in Alexa.
Such a shame they have given a negative response as their RM Pro device potentially could control most of your devices for home automation. The future does include the Amazon devices and the like, so they would turn people off buying their device.
Think I may try one last time switching my Echo location to USA and see if I can get the Alexa skill and the IHC app to work.

Hi All..

I have tried to install the Broadlink RM Plugin on as  bridge on my MXQ Pro 4K Android Box. I managed to import all codes and Alexa devices in it but the problem is Alexa cant discover my devices while trying to run the discovery. Everything works well if I try it on my spare mobile phone. Is there any setup I need to do?

Hello @tthoben ,
I've been struggling for a week in setting up the rm pro with alexa  and while searching the web for a solution i came across your post, i installed RM plugin and added my devices from econtrol app and when i test the signal it works normally from the RM plug in.
Then i tried to discover my devices in alexa up after enabling alexa bridge but unfortunately i can't find any devices .
Your help is highly appreciated

I also had issues with Alexa discovering devices using the RM plugin.
I watched this video for the setup
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJIhEyMQ0TI&t=739s
I re-watched the video after Alexa couldn't discover devices and immediately saw my mistake.
So My recommendation is watch the video a couple of times and then again afterwards if you have a issue

Nice video which captures the essence of how to use the RM Tasker app (now called Broadlink RM plugin)

so maybe you should share what mistake u made?

Hi I've answered your query too  ;D

Without getting too complicated, you have to understand that the importing of data from eControl app to RM Tasker is essentially the codes. It will only work if the Alexa device is set-up in RM Tasker and using the imported codes.

The learning of codes can also be done within the RM Tasker app while setting-up the Alexa device

It was so long ago I initially set it up I had forgotten the step I missed.
If I could have remembered exactly the step I missed I would have stated it.
However I re-watched and believe it was the share to network area where I messed up.
But I could be wrong :-[ ;)

oops sorry I got mixed up I meant geekyxpert  :P

since you got it working before it's likely your problem is the IP of the new box is different from the old one. You will need to follow the steps from the beginning and set-up from scratch. Do fix the static IP from your router settings so that future equipment upgrades will be less of an issue. Reuse the same IP of your old box to ensure maximum compatibility.

FYI, I've since upgraded my android box to XIAOMI MiBOX3S, added/replaced new broadlink smart switches etc. almost everytime I needed to troubleshoot to get everything working again. It's a pain and time-consuming exercise but hopefully what I've learnt can help others

I knew that the IP address of the new box would be different and a new RM tasker would be added to the new box, so I click on the forget button for the devices on alexa. I did this so I would start from scratch.

Hi could anyone help me please!!

I have:

Echo plus
RM pro 2 firmware v20028
Mxq pro android tv box with RM Plugin v2.20 installed.

All connected on 2g via a
Virgin media super hub 2.

I have not been able to discover any devises at all.

RM plugin shows 1/1servers (1 devices)

I have tried the troubleshoot wizard and got an error saying did not receive any discovery request from Alexa.

I have managed today to finally get a step closer and using the troubleshoot wizard it received a discovery request and then response with device descriptor and so on until I got an error saying did not receive individual device request.

Could anyone please help it's been driving me mad and sure I'm missing something simple

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi, is echo plus the new model with built in smart hub? I've not seen or heard anyone successfully integrated with this new model. Assuming u did setup your devices correctly and still could not discover them, your best bet would be to contact the rm plugin developer for help

Perhaps you could post the steps publicly?

I’m having the same problems of Alexa not finding new devices and I’m wondering if it’s because I’m using the latest generation Echo.

Thanks

Thanks to tthoben for sending me the details by PM.

I hope he doesn't mind me reposting it here, I'm sure it'll help lots of people!

-----------------------------------------------

Steps to setup Alexa Bridge (RM Plugin)

1) set static IP address for each of your device (i.e. echo/dot, RM Pro, android box) in your router settings
2) purchase and install the paid version thru the Google Play Store, not the lite version which expires in 7 days and become unusable
3) ensure that your android box does not go to sleep (disable all screensavers, power saving modes)
4) ensure that the app is running (tapping back may exit the app, tap home instead to get back to home screen)
5) tick the options "enable Alexa Bridge", "Autostart on Boot", "Keep Screen On for HTTP/Alexa Bridge"

If the above are done and discovery still fails, then likely the solution is to reconfigure your Alexa devices on the android box itself:
a) select "Alexa Device List"
b) delete all devices that were imported (swipe left to delete)
c) select "+ADD ALEXA DEVICE" button below and manually create each Alexa Device Name, On and Off Commands (note that the commands are essentially the codes that you imported from the Broadlink app)
d) while doing that, you will be able to test the On and Off Commands before you save
e) if testing here works, congrats it will work eventually
f) once all the Alexa Devices are configured, ask Alexa to discover devices
g) if step (f) fails try using web interface ( alexa.amazon.com ) under SMART HOME > devices > discover

-----------------------------------------------

I have to say, even before I start working through these steps, I'm not hopeful of success.

My network setup is pretty standard, but I do use US Amazon account with my Echo in the UK, so I'm unsure if this influences anything on the firmware/compatibly side of things.

The problem I'm getting is that RM Plugin is detecting a request from Alexa, but fails on the final step of getting device info.

I've tried it using a different router and even with a different Android device but it all falls at the last hurdle.

Having Googled the error message I'm getting, it seems to be an uncommon issue.

I'm going to give it another go tonight!

The US/UK settings will affect your Amazon music playback so that needs to be resolved in due course (but is unlikely to be cause of your current problem).

For RM plugin, you should refer to the in-app troubleshooting guide. Certain routers are known to be incompatible and there may be workarounds (or not) as informed by the app developer. If you have paid for the app, do get the help from the developer.

Lastly, you should read the other posts that echo plus doesn't work (unless someone got it to work and post the how-to steps here).

Glad to know it works on echo dot. That's what I'm using.

From what I read about the new echo plus, the built-in hub is ZigBee compatible only. RM plugin helps you to bridge the RM PRO as your hub and it can use both RF (what ZigBee uses) as well as IR.

Unless there's a way to disable the built-in ZB hub, it's unlikely to work with RM plugin. This is my current view but hey I'm not the app developer  ;)

Update: I re-read your post again and understood even the echo plus is now working with RM plugin but only after u added an echo dot to your setup. Not sure why this is so but maybe if you try to recall what exactly did you do, maybe that's the "ureka solution" that everyone here is looking for  ;D

Hello there,

I've been using a Broadlink RM Pro the last couple of weeks. Set-up remotes in e-control, TV, Audio, smart plugs. Yesterday I noticed there were multiple instances of some buttons showing up in RM Tasker plugin. I deleted all codes from RM plugin. After that I tried to import the codes again from e-contol, activated "Share to other phones in WLAN and waited for RM plugin to import, I even pressed on "Force import data from e-control" just to be sure. Yet the codes don't show up in RM plugin. I went on and activated "Debug log to file"; Here's one line of the log:

1511474438091,2017.11.23 23:00:38.091,DEBUG,RMPlugin,Thread: Thread-323,DataManager.saveCodeInfoModelToLocal  (DataManager.java:554),CodeInfo removed: Play • Total: 14

This line keeps repeating for every code I´ve deleted.

TL;DR Looks to me like the codes are being imported and removed right away. I've already reinstalled e-control and RM plugin from my Phone (S7) and cleared cache and and data. I also reset my Broadlink. Nothing helped, same issue, codes aren't imported or imported and removed right away.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Hi all - good to find this group & post.

I have the exact same issue and pretty much the same setup down to the Virgin Superhub router. Everything was setup when I was using the first generation Echo but stopped working when I replaced it with a new, second gen Echo.

I have been trying for the last 2 weeks and even after resetting/clearing back to scratch my multiple Android devices (Nexus 5x, Mexus 9, Pixel XL), resetting the Broadlink RM Pro, resetting Echo, setting up static IP address and so on - NOTHING WORKS and Echo discovery fails at the last stage ("Alexa requested individual device info").

Initially, I thought somehow the new gen Echo might be breaking things but another user has got the similar setup working fine.!!!

Not sure where the issue could be and am at my wits end tbh.... the RM PRo plugin developers do not have any support and nowhere else that seems to be reporting this issue (until I saw this forum).

Hoping that someone in here will be able to point in the right direction to a solution.
cheers

Firstly, I had good experience when I emailed the rm tasker developer with my problems. So maybe you should try emailing him but have you first tried the troubleshooting macro in the app?

Secondly, I would think that it is a better idea to add the new echo devices into your setup than to remove/replace them. As your setup was already working, what you should have done was to add them into your Alexa account without upsetting the existing setup.

The setup is a once-off process, regardless of the number of echo devices you have. Subsequent adding of echo devices should be done carefully and tested before attempting to redo the setup.

I intend to add a new echo spot to my existing setup. Instead of removing my existing echo dots, I will probably just relocate one of them to my kitchen which is currently not covered.

Maybe what u can do is try to redo the setup using your old echo dot. Once tested working, then add and test the new echo devices

Thanks for the respone TTHOBEN and tips.

Tasker? I emailed the "support@originally.us" email given in RM Plugin - Tasker & Originally are 2 separate/different developer companies. I have also tried the troubleshooting app countless times and as mentioned it always fails at the "individual device info last step". I have opened all UDP ports etc in case the route was the issue.

I did not have an option of trying both Echo devices. I gave away my old one and then purchased the new second gen Echo. With hindsight I should have kept both which would have assisted in getting to the bottom of this.

cheers

I've the 2nd gen echo dot and it works for sure. So far it seems 2nd gen echo and new echo plus seems unable to work. If I interpreted what user Klumzie2000 said previously, the setup will succeed if you have at least 1 echo dot.

anyone was able to solve the problem of importing the codes from e-contol?

Can you share more details? On which device did you try to export and import the codes?

For me, I have the e-control and rm tasker apps both installed on my mobile phone and the exporting works seamlessly. On the bridge device (my android box) I also have the rm tasker app installed and within the same app on 2 different devices you can also share the codes.

You can try that out and see if it works

Hi,

I have E-control and rm plugin (i dont have tasker installed) on my Xiaomi phone and i have broadlink rm3 pro.
I have the rm plugin also installed on my android tablet to used it as a bridge device.

when i check in the rm plugin i can see the broadlink pro on both devices but i cant export codes from the app to both devices, i can share the codes i created in the rm plugin between my phone and tablet.

all devices including the amazon echo are connected to the same wifi home network.

Did u try to "force import data from eControl" under settings/general settings?

Also, it's good to create an account in eControl app and backup your codes in their cloud server in case u need to reinstall the app and restore the codes

Try both and see if it works

OK I had time to retry the importing code function and indeed with the latest versions of e-control (3.8.11) and RM plugin (2.2.8 ) this doesn't seem to work for me even when selecting "force import data from eControl". I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge smartphone with these 2 apps installed.

My only suggestion now is to try downgrading to earlier versions of the apps and see if this importing works. You can find the earlier versions of eControl app here: https://www.apkmonk.com/app/com.broadlink.rmt/#previous and RM Plugin here: https://www.apkmonk.com/app/us.originally.rm_trial/#previous

For those who got the importing to work, can you report the versions of the apps that worked, that should help everyone facing problems and developers not responding quickly enough

yes, i suspected that the new version of the app may cause a problem.

i did try what you suggested yesterday, "force import data from eControl" and backup the codes in their cloud server
even tried a different phone and nothing worked.

Im going to try downgrading the rm plugin app (running 2.2.8 ) and see what will happen.

Hello I'm new here having recently bought an Echo.  Being intrigued by home automation side of things I first got some lighting automated, great fun, and then moved onto the Broadlink VM pro but unfortunately I'm having nothing but problems and having read some of the more recent posts in this thread my problems seem to be a common thing.

Firstly E-Control app and Tasker refuse to talk.  Using the latest versions of both tasker will not import devices from E-Control (tried force import, no difference).  I downloaded version 2.02 from a 3rd party source and this works but in doing so this version installs as a trial and will stop working in 7 days?  Is there any workaround for this?

Secondly, and more importantly, the Echo will not see any new devices no matter what I do.  I'm using my Samsung S7 phone and to be honest I'm starting to think that is the problem.  Running the trouble shooting wizard shows that the echo is broadcasting, the phone responds, echo requests device descriptor XML and then the phone doesn't respond getting stuck at Alexa requested individual device info.  I get the impression that the phone is blocking something here.  I don't think its my wifi setup as surely if it was it wouldn't get this far before failing?

I'm going to try and get a generic android tablet to test this on.  Its just a shame I cannot get the app from the amazon store or I'd just run it on my fire stick.

I notice some saying this app doesn't work with the echo 2 and only the echo dot?  Are they not both identical pieces of hardware / software with the only difference being a speaker?  I would be keen to get some solid confirmation on this point as if this is the case then I will simply send the broadlink back.

Once the codes are imported, you should follow the steps in this post to reconfigure the Alexa devices on the bridge device itself:

You will have to purchase and install the latest version from Google play store then the 7days trial limit will disappear.

Yes I have done and FYI version 2.2.8 imports from E-Control fine when I tried it on my wifes HTC One 10.  Still doesn't work on my Samsung S7.

Regardless though I've now tired this app on my S7, my wifes HTC 10 and a generic older android tablet (running droid 4.4.2) and in all instances the Alexa discovery fails.  Next hurdle is the wifi router which is a Netgear (can't remember model number) uPNP is turned on in the router and being a consumer device there is little options with regards these settings.  I'll try to fix all IP addresses but I don't believe that will fix the problem.  Only other thing I can try is another router.

Setting static IPs should be the first step in any case

Since u managed to import the codes to your wife's RM app, you can use the same app to share the codes with your tablet (assume that's your permanent bridge device) and then reconfigure the Alexa devices on the tablet with the steps in my previous thread

I set static ip addresses to the tablet, echo and the broadlink with no difference.  Echo still cannot see the devices.

Don't even knowing it's worth the hassle of trying another router.  It might just be that the  newer echo doesn't support it.

you did not mention if you have followed the step by step guide and did you test if the imported codes work?

we need users to feedback if anyone managed to get the newer versions of echo devices to work with RM plugin and how they did it and with what routers and bridge devices.

do note that there are youtube videos explaining the whole process and you may wish to watch them to see if there's any steps which you missed out along the way ;)

It looks like you are trying to get Alexa to see devices created in e-control.  It is my understanding that only the IHC app will let you use Alexa with the Broadlink hubs.  You may need to provide a few more details.  I've had some success and some failures with Broadlink RM Pro, e-control, IHC and Alexa.  With regard to your specific situation, I can create remote controllers in IHC, turn on the Broadlink skill in the Alexa App and the App will find the IHC remote controllers and add them to the Alexa app device tab.  However, I can't get the next step of using Alexa voice commands to work.  I get the dreaded "Sorry, Sony TV isn't responding" and nothing gets sent to the Broadlink RM Pro.  I've started a support session with Amazon and they've elevated it to the next tier but I'm still waiting to hear back.  There is a much more involved method using RM Bridge and Smartthings to control a variety of devices with the Broadlink RM Pro that I've implemented but I'd really like to get the IHC method working.

using RM Plugin to import codes from e-Control pre-dates the IHC app which was launched later. It acts like the Hue bridge & "fools" Alexa into thinking that the smart devices are all Hue lights.

IHC integration is through Alexa Skills but it's reportedly unstable (sometimes works & sometimes doesn't) as well as being geofenced in US at the moment.

Kudos to you for even trying the RM Bridge & Smartthings method. I tried but gave up halfway as it was too complicated for me as a lay person without coding nor programming skills

RM plugin works and has been rock stable for my setup for more than a year even through several equipment changes (I changed my bridge device, router, added smart devices etc. & everything still works)

I've seen several posts by others regarding issues with IHC app, you could seek their advice as well

Well it's now all working 100% but not with RM plugin but rather the free app RM bridge.

No matter what I did, and I followed the YouTube videos to the letter, RM plugin is broken.  For those that can use it I'm glad for you as RM Bridge is difficult to setup but it does work.

It uses the RM Bridge app which is configured online which then links to the smart things website which is controlled through an alexa skill.  This essentially tricks alexa into thinking everything is a switch.

If allowed I'll gladly link the setup procedures.

You only need the codes and not the device itself. once the importing into RM plugin works, you can configure the devices within the RM plugin app

In RM Plugin, under DATA, Device List can you see the RM Pro listed? If not, you may need to check your router and WIFI connections.

Your android bridge device (running the RM Plugin), RM Pro and Echo/Dots should all be on the same WIFI band i.e. 2.4Ghz else they may not see each other.

I strongly recommend to go into router settings to set static IP addresses for the bridge device, RM Pro, Echo/Dots so that you have no downstream/future issues after router reboots/power cycles.

Last resort: watch this lengthy YT video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJIhEyMQ0TI) to see if you have missed out any step in the configuration. You have been warned it's a long video  ;)

if it's the newest, then likely it's the crippled version.

I can't help much but somewhere in the YT video (https://youtu.be/FWRrQ-_uwEs) description mentioned certain models can be flashed with older firmware to get it to work with RM Plugin. It's entirely your own risk as it can be bricked if flashed wrongly.

Your device running rm plugin could in standby mode with wifi disconnected after certain period of inactivity. Check the display, power settings and set it such that it never goes to sleep

Have you checked your router settings? RM plugin has a FAQ accessible with the app that lists reported issues with routers and their workarounds (if any).

I don't find anithing in FAQ, but i oppened all this ports to my Android device, still dosn't work :-(

Any idea why?

I solved the issue. If anyone has similar problems in the future (I am using the RM Pro):

These UDP ports need to be open:

123
443
4070
5353
40317
49317
33434

I went into the option "port forwarding" on my browser interface. I also had to put in the IP address of the Android device I am using for RM plugin.

However, Alexa still failed to find the new devices when I gave the voice command. Using the app (Smart Home > Devices > Discover) was much more reliable.

Can anyone recommend an Android TV box or stick which works well with Alexa?

Hi,

RM pruging works perfectly.

I had the issue, after the firmware change it workrs with RM plugin, the issue is between RM pluging and ALEXA.

PLS help me, if you can.

THX,

Thank you for your support.

Hi,

I did all of the guide, Functions in RM plugin works, Alexa didn't find the rm plugin.

Echo
Mk908II android stick and Samsung s3 tab both tested
UPC connetbox and d-link router both tested.

I will restart the process, but I did it 4 times... in rm toubleshooter it stops in the last step.

Thank you

I've replied your PM. If yours is a new echo device (echo 2 or echo plus), RM Plugin may not work based on user feedback so far.
