Title: Can i connect a dot to a PC only connected to a router with a cable?
Post by: bobfnk on May 19, 2019, 12:02:14 pm
Hi.

Should i be able to connect an amazon dot to a PC that is connected to a wireless router by a cat5 cable? The router has wifi and the wifi is working i.e. other devices can connect to it. The pc does not have wifi capabilities, but the router the pc is connected to does.

Thanks.

By connect what do you mean?
If to Amazon then No! The dot is wifi only for Web connection. It can only talk to a wifi enabled routing device. Since your PC has no wi-fi how would it communicate?

After you have setup the echo dot on a wireless device like a phone/tablet/laptop, then yes.

If you mean for initial setup, then no, as the setup device will need to connect to the wifi from the echo dot for a few minutes, so you need a wifi enabled device for that.
