Title: No Spotify option
Post by: kopy78 on March 11, 2017, 05:17:48 am
So I just received an Echo Dot.  I'm tying to link it to my Spotify account but when I go to the music and books section the only options are tune in and Amazon music.  There's no Spotify option there.  How do I add it?

is it there when you access music via computer?

Try going to "Music & Media" in the Accounts department section of Settings and see if there is an option there. I think you might need to link your Spotify account there before it shows in "Music a d Books".

Got the same or similar problem here, Spotify is greyed out as a choice, it looks like this:

My echo is new and I have never used Amazon Music previously but I do have
an active Spotify Premium sub but cannot link it.

I am located in Norway, not sure if this is an issue.

EDIT: my Echo is purchased through Amazon UK

this is weird. in my alexa app under settings - accounts - music & media there's an option for spotify and i easily linked my account.

perhaps you're right and it is something having to do with being in the UK?

That is the "Choose default music services" screen, on that screen Spotify will be greyed out there if you don't have your Spotify account linked. What do you see if you just go to Settings > Accounts > Music & Media? There should be a "Link account on Spotify.com" link to allow you to link the account.
However, it looks odd that you have options (although greyed out) for Pandora and iHeartRadio considering that you are in Norway and purchased your Echo through Amazon UK. Do you have this linked to a US Amazon account?

Well thanks alot StevenR, that was indeed the issue :)

Settings > Accounts > Music & Media did not have any "Link account on Spotify.com" option
but my UK Echo was indeed registered to US amazon.com.

I changed my Devices country settings to UK in my Amazon account, then re-registered
my echo to my wifi using http://layla.amazon.co.uk instead of http://alexa.amazon.com/
and voila I now got the "Link account on Spotify.com" available and Spotify works flawlessly.

Cheers!

Same problem here.

Any chance you could be a bit more specific as to which steps to take to change the Devices Country settings?
Did you do this online? on the echo? on the app? where? I'm lost.

Did you get it to work following the guide?
If not reply again and I will go through the steps I did but deleting it from my US account
and re-registering it with a reset in my UK account as well as using http://layla.amazon.co.uk
was basically the key for me.

This is not true, it does work outside the UK or US but it was alot more hassle to set up correctly
and it took me quite some time.

I am located in Scandinavia and am currently using it with Philips Hue lighting, Spotify, shopping list to Evernote etc.

As for weather though I cannot choose my location and have to ask Alexa for weather + specify city.
