Alexa Across the Pond (Europe) / Display camera on Echo show 10
« Last post by Pirots on April 28, 2022, 02:27:30 am »
Does anyone know why my echo show does this?

If I ask Alexa to show my front door camera, it will either display it using the full screen which is great, or more often than not display it as a 70x20mm box in the top left-hand corner of the screen, which can hardly be seen.

I set up a routine to automatically display the camera when someone rings the bell and it does exactly the same thing.

This is my second echo show now and like the first, I am starting to think I need to return it and go with something else.

Yes, you can now combine several commands in a single routine. This was an update that came about 3 months ago.

In the Alexa app, go to Routines. Create a new routine or edit an existing routine. Under "Add action" choose Custom. Then just type the text of exactly what you would say in a voice command. In your case, you would type in:
What's the temperature on the porch

Then for the next action, do the same thing and type in:
what's the temperature on the deck

Etc.

Keep in mind that some common commands and words take precedence over any routine trigger that you might use the same command or word.

BTW which Govee thermometer do you have? I have the Govee Bluetooth ones and they do not work with Alexa.

Alexa Across the Pond (Europe) / Just Checking.

Hello All.

I haven't posted for ages about this, and I was wondering if anyone knew if any changes had been made etc to play your youtube playllist on Alexa at all without having to use a mobile or tablet paired with it.

Or has a skill been made to work around it?

Don't shout at me, I'm not that techie but do like to listen to my playlist whenever possible, and on the Alexa would be fantastic.

I was hoping that by this time and with it being out for so long now things would be possible.

Thank you.

New guy here. 75-year-old "gadget freak"

Want to make Alexa do something I can't figure out how to set up.

I've done several things with the 7 echos (1 echo, 1 show, 5 dots) scattered around our house. Mostly several combinations of lights (some Tuya, some Smart, some Hue) in various rooms.

Got a "cute" routine where I say "Alexa, intruder alert" and she turns all the lights on and red, sounds a siren, and says "Intruder alert! Releasing toxic nerve gas in 10 seconds"

On a more serious note, I have a couple of Govee thermometers (cleverly named "porch" and "deck"), and can ask Alexa "what's the temperature on the deck (or porch)?" and she'll tell me.

Also have a Honeywell smart thermostat (named "house"), and can have Alexa set it hotter or cooler, or tell me the temperature in the house

And I can just ask Alexa "what's the temperature" and she tells me what it is in my zipcode.

Here's what I would LIKE to do:
I want to get all 4 responses from a single request. Like, set up a routine (call it "temps") such that I say "Alexa, temps" and she responds as if I had said
Alexa, what's the temperature on the porch?
Alexa, what's the temperature on the deck?
Alexa, what's the temperature in the house?
Alexa, what's the temperature?

Is this possible? And, if so, how?

Thanx

Amazon Echo Discussion / Suggestions and improvements for echo show
« Last post by djsolidsnake86 on April 24, 2022, 02:05:32 pm »

Hello i have some strange bug in the interface of echo show 5:

if i set the night mode, the weather icon remain white for many minutes before became yellow (i have the south west theme that make all the informations and clock in yellow), is this normal? is possible to fix?

another problem is that when i call alexa, the night theme disappear and return the normal theme for some minutes..

the third problem is that the clock in the main windows make 3-4 times randomly a dissolvence and reappear quickly, after this it stay normal.. is this normal?

and a suggestion: the show has so few personalizations.. for example if i set my personal photos, the night mode is only in red (that i don't like).. if i want the night mode in another color (for example yellow or orange) i must set the default photos/other themes..so why don't add more personalization for colors?

Amazon Echo Discussion / [SOLVED] Alexa now meows like a cat!!!!! HELP!
« Last post by SeattleRhodes on April 23, 2022, 01:30:16 pm »
Just found the solution... by reviewing my Alexa Voice history... and found when my son said:

"Alexa, let the cats in"

I said these words again and in doing so, the solution to turning it off was announced as well...

"Alexa, no more cats"

Amazon Echo Discussion / Alexa now meows like a cat!!!!! HELP!
« Last post by SeattleRhodes on April 23, 2022, 12:43:09 pm »
Ever add an Alexa feature you can’t figure out how to turn off? Well my 8 year old did. Now every time I say good morning to Alexa, a loud meow occurs followed by the same “fun cat fact or joke”. fact, it’s not fun and definitely not funny anymore.

B.C. (before cat) the default function of Alexa was as followed. If you said “Alexa, good morning” the response would be “Good morning…” followed by an interesting fact of the day or a joke or something like that. I liked the feature. This again was the default feature, no skill or routine necessary.

Now A.C. (after cat), I can’t find a way to turn it off! It’s not a skill. It’s not a routine. Amazon tech support didn’t have the answer and Reddit and other forums don’t either. The closest I’ve come to is one post saying to say “Alexa, I miss your good mornings”, but she’s “not sure” about that.

Any thoughts on how to bring back balance to the Force would be much appreciated?

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Alexa for blind people

Although Alexa can do as you want, it's more complicated than other solutions that are readily available.

Windows 10/11 or MacOS have built-in screen readers that are easily accessible to the sight impaired. Even IOS and Android does a better job and easier to setup than Alexa.

Hello everyone, I want to help a blind person that works in my team.

What I want to do is provide her an echo dot so I can send her clients phone number and name for her to call.

Can you explain me how to do this? I don't have an alexa device at the moment.

Thanks!

Smart Devices and Gadgets / Insteon going dark
« Last post by renegade600 on April 18, 2022, 08:18:23 pm »
Look like Insteon is going dark.  Some are saying they are filing bankruptcy.  Fortunately I do not use their smart devices but at one time I did consider them since the have been around a long time and have a huge following.   If you have it, experts are say do not reset at this time for any reason.
