I was increasing the sound through the DOT and through the Alexa app **browser.** 
I always use the Alexa app  **browser** to do things (I have a 30' screen iMac) as it's easier on my 72 yrs young eyes. 
The **browser** version has only 1 sound setting.

I had forgotten all about the iOS Alexa app.  I went on my Amazon tablet & found that the iOS Alexa app does have 2 sound settings as you stated.  I increased the sound volumne from the default setting.  That did the trick!!!!!  All is now well.

where are you increasing sound from, the app or the dot?   There are also two different sound settings in the app.

I guess I need to know how to get my one Alexa to send mono over bluetooth instead of one side of a stereo.

DOT 3rd generation.

Brand new purchased today.  I have 2 other DOTs - 2nd gen (kitchen) & 3rd gen (bedroom).

I set up the *new* DOT w/the exact same settings as the other 2.  However, when I ASK questions the sound is very low.  I have to increase the sound.
When I PLAY music, listen to the radio, etc., the sound comes in perfectly w/o any adjustments.
I unplugged the DOT for approximately 5 minutes.  No change.

Is there anything else I should try before I contact Amazon tech support?

A couple of days ago, I was able to use my phone's volume control to change the volume of my Echo Dot - it came up as an extra control beside the usual ringtone, media, notifications. I am not sure how I managed to do this, but it is much quicker than using the volume control in the app.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Me too.  Tried unlinking ring and removed the camera and re-did it all to no avail.  FRUSTRATED

As far as I know, Alexa will only allow you to combine a single, non-Alexa specific Bluetooth speaker to say an Alexa dot. Also, you may have noticed, that when you do, the Alexa dot speaker disconnects but this allows you to use any of your Alexa devices in any part of the house to play music in a single room as long as the Bluetooth will reach. If you want stereo, you need to combine two Alexa specific devices together in the APP to form a left right stereo speaker pair.  Now that isn't going to give you any type of real bass effects.  I have an Alexa specific Bass Boom box using Wi-Fi.  The Alexa app allows me to connect all three (actually two as the stereo pair appears as one device) together in a group.  I added in another Alexa dot in that group and it connects to a Bluetooth speaker that I place in the background to get a fuller effect.  Sound quality varies with which version of Alexa specific device you are using.  The app limits what it will and will not allow you to connect together.  PS: You may have to adjust lag times so one bluetooth speaker doesn't lag behind another.

Over the last several years, I have changed the music/song that serves as my Echo Dot alarm. Needless to say, there is quite a list that I no longer intend to use. How can I clean this up and keep the alarm music relevant, deleting all those choices that I no longer wish to use, ever. Thanks for any help with this because I have spent a lot of time in my app looking at even a hint to resolve this.
