Title: Two Devices, Strange Behavior
Post by: eolson on December 14, 2020, 06:13:20 pm
Hi All. I have an Echo dot in my kitchen and an Echo tower on the other side of my house in a bedroom. In the last two weeks a strange behavior has started. If I'm in the kitchen and say, "Alexa, set a timer for 10 minutes," I receive no response, but 10 minutes later the tower in the bedroom plays the timer alarm. If I'm in the kitchen and I say, "Alexa, play X (music)," music plays in the bedroom. It doesn't happen for every command: Flash Briefing works. "What time is it?," works. I'm stumped. Any ideas? I've reset both devices, but no change.

what is an echo tower???  are you talking about the first generation echo?  anyway, try moving the one in the bedroom further away and out of line of sight to the door.   or you can change the wake name.    The same happens to me all the time because I have them too close together.

Yeah... I have a bunch of echos all over the house, none too far apart. In my living/dining area not only do I have a dot per "room" (which is all one room), I have 2 tablets that act as Echo Show units... among them, I never know which will answer, but I always get my results. I have 2 in the bedroom and had to change the wake word of one to "Computer" so it would get the commands I wanted, separate from the Alexa on the other side of the bed. We use them for alarm clocks and sleep machines (Music timed to go off after a while and rain sounds and such)

I've just gotten used to paying close attention to which one accepts the timers and such, so I know which to listen for, or to change the timer by actually being specific and talking directly to the one I want it on.
