One of these things is probably happening:

1. One of your Echo devices is connected via Bluetooth to someone near by.
2. There's a routine that's playing music without you asking.
3. Somebody is messing with you, kind of like someone with a TV remote outside your window changing channels. See this video for info:  -- Apparently it works on Siri, Alexa, and Google.

I am running a Fire Cube 2nd Gen with Two Echo Dot 3rd Gen integrated into a hubless smart home system for lighting. The Echo Dots are configured in stereo format and used for my home theater sound with the Cube as well as for music playback using Tidal, Spotify and Amazon Music Unlimited. In order to prevent Alexa from responding on all or some of my devices every time the word “Alexa” is muttered, I have given each device its own wake word.
For the most part, the system, including the smart lightbulbs work exceptionally well but there is an extremely annoying issue that I hope can be resolved.
Here’s the problem: Alexa is constantly playing playing music without being asked to play. Furthermore, Alexa always plays music from a genre that I do not like and have no listening history for on any streaming service.
Is there a way to configure Alexa to ONLY play music when it is specifically asked for?  I hope so because this is drivin me crazy.

Greetings Earthlings!  :)

I'm a Computer Engineer in Oklahoma.  Last week, I purchased an Echo Show 5 and I've been using it to make video calls with my family and listen to Amazon Music & SiriusXM.  Next, I want to "stream" my own massive collection of MP3s from my local Intranet.  So, far I have not been impresed with the available options.  I've tried My Media & Plex.  I don't like having to log in to somebody else's server to play music from within my own network.  Then, their software would randomly disconnect from the external server.  Their software also had problems displaying the correct MP3 tag data even though all my files have been vetted with the correct information.  I'd prefer a localized solution that stays within my Intranet (even if I have to create it myself).  I'll be playing with Kodi this weekend, which I have used in the past on an Android TV box, PCs, and a Raspberry Pi.

It is only temporary.   May take a day or so for it to fix itself.   If you cannot wait, you can try uninstalling then reinstall the app.  Everything is stored on the cloud.    You should be able to access things using your browser by going to or if you have a win pc, download and install the alexa app from the microsoft store.

All of my smart devices (plugs, switches, thermostat, basically anything other than an Echo or Fire Stick device) have all vanished from my Alexa app. Most of them still respond to voice but I can't change their names or groups.

I made sure I'm logged in to the right account.
I Uninstalled/reinstalled the app.
I deleted and re-enabled the associated skills
Amazon brand plugs don't show up either (they are recognized, but I can't rename them or add them to groups)
I have not tried to find another phone to put the app on but I can get one I'll post the results.

I can see the devices when I create a routine, but the routine won't control them. Same for Favorites, I can add/remove them from favorites but when I try to control them the icon just flashes.

I purchased ring security over a year ago. I was unable to use it because of the siren and had to turn on the cameras separately. I live in a duplex and the landlord will not fix a door that keeps flying open during high winds. It only happens a couple times a year and usually when at work. I work nights. I did not want to disturb my neighbor on the other side of the wall from the base.

Finally figured out how to stop the siren. All I had to do was to open the base station and unplug the speaker. There still is the alarm in the keypad but it is low enough not to bother the neighbors since it is two walls away from them. I have been just 6 screws away for over a year ... Oh well. At least now I can use alexa to arm/disarm now.

I just wish ring gave the ability to turn off the siren without going into the base and voiding any warranty available.

since it is all of them, first thing to try is to power cycle your router.   Unplug the power for a 20 count then plug back in.   Do not use the power button.    If that does not work, do the same with all of your echo devices but unplug for at least 40 seconds.

I have 1 Echo and 5 Echo Dot's.  Lately, all of my Echo's are none responsive.  I can say the question 6 times but get no response.  If I say, Alexa, what time is it like 2 times, it wakes up.  Almost like Alexa is sleeping.

Well, got them to work, I prioritized several Echo's through my wireless router and now they work.  Plus no slowdown speed with my Internet.
