Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: amazon announcement Sept 28
« Last post by renegade600 on September 24, 2022, 10:15:37 pm »
Prices always drop when new hardware is on the way. Same with Apple. When a new iPhone is on the way, the older generations always drop by $100.

Take for example the Echo Show 5 (2nd gen) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08J8FFJ8H
Original price is $84.99. Today it is $39.99 and if you use the code SHOWOFFICE30 the price drops to $29.99.

One can only assume a new Echo Show is on the way. September 28 is only 4 days away.

There's some good prices if you don't want the latest  :-)   Unfortunately I always want the latest-that I can afford.  I just wonder what new type of device they are going to release.   In the past it was a microwave, 4-1 smart oven, robot, drone, auto, and more.  I am not in the market for any new devices right now but...

Interesting! I know that a lot of people have asked for this feature. I'm in the US and I didn't know it was already available or when they did it.

I just tested it right now by saying, "Alexa, turn off kitchen in 3 minutes." Alexa responded, "OK. I will turn off kitchen in 3 minutes."

Amazon Echo Discussion / Turn off the light in X minutes : since when ?

A new feature seems to have just landed in France :
https://www.lesalexiens.fr/actualites/amazon-alexa-senrichit-de-taches-programmees-en-vocal/

It lets you turn on/off a device (lights, smart devices) with a delay with a single vocal command (no need for a routine here)
Example : "Alexa, turn off the lights in 5 minutes"

=> I was wondering when did this most awaited feature land in the US ?
(I cannot find any web page referring to this...)

Amazon Echo Discussion / Finish with Guard automation
« Last post by Merz560sl on September 21, 2022, 10:19:34 am »
I love that Guard can be activated programmatically now.
But I sure would like to be able to disarm it the same way.
If Amazon is worried about some liability, they can put a liability waiver and warnings to protect themselves.
At this time, when I come home, my Hubitat hub disarms my security system automagically, but I have to sit in the driveway and fumble deeply through the Alexa app to turn off Guard.
The weak "siren" effect that comes from the echo speakers is no deterrent to a thief and is just an annoyance to talk over to say "Alexa, I am home" plus your code.   An option should be created to forego the siren and just warn via text or push.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: New Fire Tablet 10HD has built-in Echo Show Mode

It has nothing to do with the device being an echo SHOW or HD tablet... it has everything to do with their database at the source. You already have the workaround figured out, so no big deal. I don't think I would try and get the weather by my neighborhood "subdivision" name, as I live in "Camelot". What kind of weather would I get ? LOL
Some things on these devices are odd in the fact that they find ways to perplex us.For the life of me, I don't believe the way some of the things are used. In this case... I find it odd they don't map you by Map and just give the weather by the nearest Major city or suburb. I guess getting it down to neighborhood level is asking too much for now. It may improve over the years, but like I said above, you have a good workaround for now...

Since you have some experience with the Fire HD in SHOW mode, I have an interesting question.  I have a Fire HD8 that I use exclusively in SHOW mode.  I live in Columbus, Ohio in a neighborhood named "Clintonville".  Clintonville is not a village within Columbus, but I believe that they have a Constable that is separate from the Columbus Police, but there is no counsel or mayor or manager for the neighborhood.  When I ask my Fire HD8 for the weather, it provides me with the weather for Clintonville, Wisconsin.  I have checked, and the location assigned to my Alexa account and the HD8 are all correct, but the weather is still displaying Wisconsin.  In order to get my weather, I have to ask for weather in Columbus, Ohio.  Is this just a sweet mystery of life or have I Smurfed up something.....

Thanks,
Kevin
