Alexa Tips & Tricks / Limit commands per room
« Last post by paul@sinnema.ch on September 06, 2023, 04:32:08 am »
I'm using Alexa for my home automation. I have a Loxone Miniserver in combination with a 1Home Box. The 1Home box is connected to Alexa and can receive commands like 'Alexa Turn On Bathroom' and it will turn on the lights in the Bathroom. So far very cool. The problem is the following. I have 3 bedrooms and each has it's own Alexa Device. Now when I say: 'Alexa set bedroom cooling temperature to 23', Alexa does not know which bedroom (of course). So I have to change the thermostats for each room to a name that is unique which in turn makes the commands even longer, f.i. 'Alexa, set guest bedroom 1 cooling temperature to 23'. Is there a way to limit the commands for a specific Alexa Device to just the room it is in? So, when I'm in Guest bedroom 1 I can just say: 'Alexa set cooling temperature to 23'?

Echo Technical Support / Re: Turning off Pre Made List in Shopping

at the top right, there should be an icon to click on so you can change the way the list looks.   Not sure of the icon if it is a qear or three dots.    Dont have my phone on me right now to check.  I agree, they are trying to put too many unnecessary features in the list.   They just need to keep the list simple.

pre made list in Alexas' Shopping Category???????  are you talking about the shopping list under Lists & Notes?  If not, you need to be more specific.   If so, I do not see how it would make a difference whether it is on/off.   Just don't use it if you don't want it.
Yes, the shopping list under lists and notes. I use it daily.
I am saying it would be nice to be able to disable add ons to the category when the developers change them. To be able to use them as they were before they were changed.
I have used the list for years and I loved the original. If the developers want to add features, fine. Just give me a way to disable it if I do not want the feature.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: App Settings

there are settings for the specific devices and settings that will cover all the devices at once.    There are also some privacy settings under the individual devices.

When I select seeing in the Alexa app on my iPhone, do those setting apply to all of my Alexa devices automatically?  We have two Echo Show 10s.  Can the have independent privacy settings or are they as indicated in the master application?

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Selling Unopened Echo 2nd Gen

all you need to do is to de-register it in the app since it is associated with your account.   If you cannot find it, under devices in  the app, then it should be good to go.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Selling Unopened Echo 2nd Gen

I have an unopened Echo 2nd Generation that's sat on a shelf since purchase from Amazon.  I'd like to sell it.  While I never activated it I'm concerned about security.  Do I need to set it up and to make certain the new user won't any private info associated with my Amazon account?

Amazon Echo Discussion / Question
« Last post by fdezarra on August 30, 2023, 09:20:48 pm »
So I have a Fire TV connected to a soundbar by optical cable.

I also have an echo input feeding a pair of speakers in the backyard as well as another pair in the front courtyard.

Additionally, I have several other echo devices throughout the house.

I have 2 questions:

1) How can I play the audio from the Fire TV throughout the house on the echo’s I have and outside the house through the echo input?  This is ideal, for example, during barbecues throughout the NFL season.  When I am cooking outside, or entertaining outside, it would be nice to hear the audio from the game on TV.

2) Similarly, how can I play music from my phone throughout the house on the echo devices as well as through the echo input so I can hear it outside?  An example would be playing (and controlling) music from my phones library (or an app like Apple Music) through the echo devices I have including the input.

Thanks in advance.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Out of the broadcast area

Are you able to get the radio station when the Dodgers are not playing? If so, then it just might be a local blackout for the Dodgers and there isn't much you can do about it unless you use a VPN to make it look like you are in a different location.

Sometimes the way you ask for something can make a difference. This might or might not work. But give it a try.

Try: Alexa, play 570 AM in Los Angeles
Try: Alexa, play KLAC radio

Or try other variations you can think of to get that radio station.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Echo buds - 3rd Generation

I see that Amazon is selling the gen 3 earbuds for $39.99 right now. That's a pretty good price compared to what the gen 1 used to cost. I paid $129.99 for the gen 1 back in 2019.
