I just received my 2nd gen DOT 2 days ago. In going through the settings, I noted that my DOT shows a software version of 564186420.
Then I went over to Amazon's DOT update website which confirms that the 2nd gen DOT has an update of Echo Dot (2nd Generation) Latest Software Version: 561179520

I realize that the DOT is suppose to update itself through wi-fi. Well, mine did not. I cannot find anywhere on Amazon's site to manually download. I called DOT CR who advised me that the updates are done in batches. Well, it's been 2 days now.
Is this a wait a see game? Any suggestions?
I am in the US (in case this is an international community).

Tt can take a while to get updates, so give it a week, if no joy then, complain again.

It can take days and weeks to get an update.

Doesn't this mean that your Dot has the most recent software and the Amazon website isn't up to date? 564186420 > 561179520, and I would expect it to be more recent, unless Amazon is using an unusual versioning scheme.

I noticed that. However, I am new to Amazon as a DOT user. I am not an Amazon member so therefore I am not familiar w/their updates & how they go about it. I was amazed that you cannot manually install/download. And another thing..... I have no clue of the shelf life of my DOT before it was shipped to me 2 days ago. The software update page is NOT dated. So how is one to know when the update was issued? ???

kinda an old msg but thought i'd chime in...
i've had my dot for over a week now. have put it in mute mode all day a couple of days (when i'm at work) and still no update.
wish there was an option to force an update.

Unplug it and when you plug it back in that will force it to look for any new update if there is one.

Are you seeing new facilities like being able to link to an Outlook calendar as some are seeing on the latest Echo update?

This is the correct manner in which to force an immediate update of the firmware.
Follow this procedure exactly:
(1) Register Echo Dot normally in the app and complete the setup fully;
(2) With Echo Dot still powered on, DEREGISTER the Echo Dot in the app;
(3) UNPLUG Echo Dot from wall power for 10-20 secs;
(4) PLUG Echo Dot back into power and <<<<< DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ON THE ECHO DOT >>>>>
(5) Echo Dot will power up with a blue ring and the green short bar will circle, THEN it begin to download update (blue ring with half green bar circling)
(6) Once update is complete blue ring will turn red and reboot and Echo Dot will state it is not setup and to follow the procedures outlined in the app;
(7) Press and hold the action button (button with white dot) until ring turns orange and Echo Dot will state it ready to setup;
(8) Go back to phone and connect to Echo Dot in wifi mode;
(9) Go back into Alexa App and complete the setup process again;
(10) Once you complete the process you will see the Echo Dot adopted with all the previous settings from before WITH the most recent firmware.
