Title: Echo controlling Fire TV
Post by: jwlv on August 15, 2017, 06:20:32 pm
It's been a week since the Echo can control Fire TV. But it isn't fully hands-free.

For example, I would say, "Alexa, watch My Name is Earl." Then my Fire TV Stick brings up My Name is Earl (from Netflix) on my TV. But since there are dozens of episodes, the Fire TV Stick is waiting for me to choose to play the currently displayed episode or choose another episode.

My question is, how do I tell Alexa the equivalent of pressing the "select" button to play the currently displayed episode, or press the left or right buttons so that I can choose a different episode?

SO, if you ask it tp play episode 5 of this show, does it do that?

As far as I can tell, there is no way to ask Alexa to play a specific episode.

I hardly see any utility of using Alexa with w/FireTV.  I think Amazon is getting carried away with using Alexa for everything, it seems.  I mostly do not even use the FireTV for much else other than using MrMC app (aka Kodi) with it. (I also prefer Netflix and Amazon video from Roku).
