Title: Why is the BOND hub the only one that will work with Hampton Bay remotes?
Post by: cjw3 on December 24, 2018, 10:58:07 pm
After searching it does seem that somehow the BOND hub can control the Hampton Bay remote(s) but nothing else I've found will do it (without additional $$$$$).  Why is it that the 303.85 - 303.95 MHz is not able to be controlled by other IR / RF hubs?  Sure seems on the surface that it should be more available.  Comments..........................

For some reason, fan companies have made their remotes proprietary. I'm not sure why.

as if anyone here would know why...you need to ask the company as to why.   all anyone here can do is guess.

My guess- there's not enough money in it. If there was significant money to be made, others would be there. As it is, there are other options. Fan manufacturers make "smart kits", you can buy a "smart" fan controller switch (both require you to do some wiring) or you can just buy a smart ceiling fan to replace your current one. If spending more money is your concern, don't try automating your house. It's not an inexpensive hobby.
