Title: Does turning off notifications also turn off messages?

My very elderly relative has an Echo Show. I set it up with no notifications, as my relative is easily confused by seeing things on the screen. However, I want to be able to leave messages that show up on the screen. Can this still be done, or do I need to take an hour and walk her through the set up again, and allow notifications?
