Title: Programming documentation?
Post by: Dshow on February 19, 2020, 07:06:13 pm
Hi, sorry if all Newbe's ask this question...  I'm relatively new to programming Alexa.  I've set up some routines and can do simple on/off control.  I'm fascinated by Alexa and think it can be a very powerful tool.  Is there a programming guide for Alexa?  What can you do within a routine?  Do Alexa routines have any 'If', 'Then' capability?

Any suggestions on where I start?

Thank you

I suggest you visit this website:
https://developer.amazon.com/en-US/alexa/alexa-skills-kit

Now, regarding your question about "IF" and "Then", the answer is no (at least for the moment).
I'm one of those hoping Amazon implements such functionality.

Thank you.

Do we need to create a 'skill' to get some advanced capability?

You can play around enough with routine's actions in order to create some long and/or sophisticated series of actions but since you've asked about "Programming documentation" I assumed you're looking to go all the way.

OR, check out Voiceflow, if you want to make 'skills', but don't have a lot of programming experience.
