Post by: steveky on September 18, 2018, 09:58:18 am
Hi
Have tried the usual mute and vol down button but the blue clockwise light continues to go around, is there any way to do a hard reset. It was switched off for a few weeks but coming back to it it’s just blue light nothing else thanks in advance
Steve

Did you hold down both buttons for 20 seconds?

Blue light going around usually indicates an insufficient power supply. Are you using the USB cube that came with your Echo Dot? If you are using a different one, it might not be supplying enough power to the Echo Dot.

The official Echo Dot USB cube should look like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Official-Charger-Adapter-eReaders/dp/B01I0IGFKC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1537305266&sr=8-4&keywords=echo+dot+power+adapter

Note that the specifications show 9 Watt, 1.8 Amp.  Older USB power supplies only provide 0.5 Amp. Some newer ones supply 1.0Amp. That's still not enough power to drive an Echo Dot.

A less likely scenario is the USB cord that you are using. Some older USB cords use really thin wires. Thin wires might not be sufficient to carry power that the Echo Dot requires. So make sure you're using the original USB cord too.

If you are in fact using the official Amazon power supply and the original USB cord, it is still possible that it is malfunctioning or the cord is damaged in some way.
