Title: Alexa asked me a question without being prompted
Post by: dahur1 on February 12, 2020, 10:19:14 pm
Just curious if anyone's experienced this before. A couple nights ago around 10 pm I was watching TV, and out of the blue she said,
"The front door is unlocked. Would you like me to lock it.?"
I checked and sure enough it was unlocked, which is rare. I'm pretty good at keeping it locked. I said "yes", and she locked it.  I had installed Schlage  z-wave door locks on the front and back doors. When I put them in a couple years ago, I set them up through Smartthings, and Alexa. I can tell her to lock them, but for security reasons she won't unlock them. I can do that through Smartthings if I want to however.  I don't have any routines set up for the locks.
This was the first time I've had this happen before.

Alexa can learn your behavior. From what you described, it has learned that you usually lock the door at night.

This feature is called Alexa Hunches. You can turn it on or off in the Alexa app.

I can certainly see that's what happened. However, I didn't say "good night", "set alarm", or anything else. It must have been a glitch.
