just unplug the dot if you do not want to use it anymore.   The show can handle most things.   However, it's been my experience the show does not hear as well as the dot so if all you need it for is to operate the lights, it won't make a difference which one did it.    I have two echo devices in the living room and for me, so not matter where I am in the room or what direction I am facing, the command I give will be heard.

1. Change Wake word to make it unique for the devise you want to give specific verbal commands.
2. ALT: turn off audio receiver on device you don't want to communicate with.

amazon is in it for the money.   nothing you can do about it other than using another music service or upload your own music to the cloud.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Extortion

When I first purchased my echo's, all was fine and working perfectly well. I could ask for a certain song and they would play it, no problem.

Now in the last few months, if I as for a certain song, it tells me it can only play specific songs if I sign up and pay for Amazon Music Unlimited. I Already pay a subscription to Amazon, why do I have to pay more now when everything worked perfectly well before!!!?

I'm sure this is called EXTORTION in legal terms, and Amazon should be ashamed of itself, they're already one of the wealthiest companies in the world, why would they need more money?

Echo Technical Support / Can't connect to wifi ALEXA Gen 1
« Last post by ozstar on June 19, 2024, 10:50:44 pm »
Hi,

For some strange reason it just stopped working and I have spent hours trying to getting back to the internet,.

I get the orange and I can get it connected via the Amazon WiFi network but it won't go to the normal router internet.
I do have the correct one and it had worked since brand new, years ago.

I have also reset it, changed tablets, followed the Amazon help guides but still no go.

What next?

I was getting exactly the same error message, I updated Alexa, I uninstalled and re-installed it, but still the same. But I eventually found a solution on my Samsung phone. . . .

Go to settings - Apps - Amazon Alexa - Set as Default - Go to Supported URL's (in this app) - then check "In this App" instead of "Always ask".

This worked a treat for me.

I stopped developing Alexa skills a couple of years ago. I find the constant changing and limiting functions quite frustrating. One day it works and the next it doesn't. And then some other developer's skill that I didn't even enable gets priority over my skill that is enabled. So instead of invoking my skill and replying to my command, it asks if i want to enable some other skill that isn't even related to mine. BLAH!
