Title: Can Alexa control WiFi speakers (NOT bluetooth)

I have some DLNA wifi speakers throughout my home.
Whenever I ask Alexa to connect she says "...ensure bluetooth is enabled"

Can Alexa not connect to, and control, DLNA WiFi speakers?

If not, do you think there will be any plans for this in the future?

You already answered your own question.

Alexa uses Bluetooth. Your DLNA speakers use WiFi.

Echo is not a wifi speaker. It's only BT speaker. There are wifi speakers with built in Alexa though. Like the one I have, the cheapo Ilive speaker.

Any of my Alexa devices can play any of my Sonos, wifi speakers, upon command.

I use Spotify as my default music source, but can ask to play SiriusXM etc...

For non BT speakers you can get a BT receiver and plug it into your speaker.
The TP-Link NFC-Enabled Bluetooth 4.1 Receiver (HA100) is a nice sounding and affordable one.
I stuck one on a decent iPod dock radio that had nothing except the 3.5mm AUX jack in the back. (None of the BT dock adaptors are worth it.)
But BT is just one speaker at a time.

I too use DLNA and a Media Server to send audio to them. I was also using it to watch movies via Roku. I came across your post looking for 'Alexa DLNA' and found the responses lacking...
