Title: Alexa Routines
Post by: jarwyn on February 01, 2019, 09:37:51 am
I've just discovered Alexa Routines but the one I am most interested in, I'm unable to add as part of the routine.

So, I have a routine for my mornings, which will switch lights on, read out my calendar events, tell me the weather and then give me my news briefing.

The 'extra' bit I'd like to add is - as far as I'm aware - not currently possible, which is to carry out the task as if I'd said "Alexa, ask National Rail to check my commute".

Currently when I say that, I get the times of the next 3 trains out of my station - which is great. But what would be even better is if I could include this as  part of my morning routine.

I've looked into IFTTT but I'm no programmer and so I don't have a clue how to write it let alone incorporate it into Alexa.

Has anyone get any thoughts on this - a work around maybe? Or does anyone know when this might be possible with Alexa?

Well all I found in searching for your problem is that you're British. That's why I can't find that skill on my Alexa since I am not British though I would love to live there.

There's a UK section here maybe your fellow  Brits can help you better.

Yes I used your fellow  Brit's science of deduction, my guy, Sherlock.

I could be wrong, but when I last checked on routines, I could listen to radio via tune in skill. Are there any local radio stations that may broadcast the info you are looking for, like how they would broadcast the local weather and traffic conditions? Could be a workaround until Alexa routines support more "local" skills
