Amazon Echo Discussion / Sorry if this is not new

I'm wanting to put a smart bulb in the bedroom lamp, but the Dot is in the livingroom of my one level condo with concrete walls. Will this work without shouting across the apartment in the middle of the night?

Amazon Echo Discussion / was amazon frames a misfire?
« Last post by renegade600 on November 11, 2024, 01:08:24 pm »
Found the following on Engadget.   My guess they will not be releasing any more frames.   I have two pairs and both are now gathering dust.  Got tired of having to charge them all the time and the last time I wore the 2nd gen frames, it only got two hours before charging.     I did not get the third generation because of all the changes they made.

I now wear Lucyd and they last well over ten hours before needing charging.   Since it has the ability to listen to one arm at a time, it should last all day.  Now, if Amazon Echo Frames lasted that long, I am pretty sure their sales would skyrocket.

The Echo Frames have turned out to be a pretty big misfire for Amazon. The same report indicates that the company has sold only 10,000 units since the third-gen glasses came out last year.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Check your skills

THX for the tip. I had similar adds showing up suddenly on my echo show when just scrolling my favorite photos on the home screen. I found 3 additional skills that I hadn't added myself. This is becoming really a nuisance and let me regret to even have bothered to add the show unit for my doorbell. (As I meanwhile discovered, the latency is so bad and my dog is my more effective announcer of people not even have gotten into the courtyard yet.)

I agree, it is a nuisance.   Just an additional place to check after home content on the show and the different settings in the app.   Wonder what will be next.

I was going over the skills in the alexa app and found a skill that was added without permission.   It was called JHCP Prod and it is an ambient advertising app that shows ads on the homescreen.

Might want to check your skill list to see if it's been added.

Thank you for that. It hadn;t crossed my mind that the ads were a Skill... This is why we have trust issues. I;ve been hunting the setting that was allowing the ads, this should take care of it. And now I have awareness that those Skills can be auto added somehow. I had no idea.

Again thanks.

Amazon Echo Discussion / AI delayed till 2025

The new Alexa, code-named ?Remarkable Alexa? internally, will reportedly cost $5 to $10 per month, offered alongside a less capable free plan. Some reports indicated that it would arrive in October, but it?s seemingly suffering delays.

Bloomberg reports the timeline has slipped into 2025.

I wonder if they are having trouble integrating their ads into it.  What is scary is the comment about taking action on the users behalf.   Makes me wonder about what type of action it is talking about.   Maybe it means placing orders on your behalf  :-)

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy on Thursday hinted at an improved, ?agentic? version of the company?s Alexa assistant ? one that could take actions on a user?s behalf.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Why Does Echo Device Demand a Reply

That kind of defeats the usefulness of Alexa in an Echo device!
Thanks for the reply.

I disagree.   If it stops without action, and you did not hear it, you would be on here complaining about not hearing it.    I do think amazon should copy google on stopping reminders, alarms and timers.   Forget the wake word, just say stop.
