Title: Alexa Echo & dots AND Ecobee3 lite
Post by: Hans L on June 18, 2021, 04:03:21 pm
I have two problems:

•  Sometimes, when I stand just above an Alexa Echo or a Dot (2nd generation), and say "Alexa", and tell Alexa what to do, I get an answer (only) from another room, about 20 feet away (I have one Echo and three Dots). This started a few weeks ago.

•  Today, I tried to connect my Ecobee3 Lite thermostat to Alexa on my Alexa phone app. I did what I read on line to do, but only one of the Dots can discover Ecobee.

So, I ask for help to see what I can do to reset or otherwise get everything to work. Note. I had Echobee working on all Alexa devices once in the past, but ...

Thank you for your help.

Okay, I know ... this is a very general problem. What can I do to get to a solution?

Gratefully,

It sounds like your dots are not connected properly.  Impossible for only one dot to discover since it's your amazon account that does the discovery not the dot.  Also because only the one dot is responding from 20' away it sounds like the first isn't connected.

Assuming that your Echo Dots are all on the same Amazon account and your Ecobee skill is already installed, set up, and linked, you only need to discover it once from any one of your Echo devices. You do not need to (and should not) discover it from each and every Echo device. If you do attempt to discover it more than once, the other devices will likely say nothing found. That is because it has already been discovered and it's not a new device.
