Title: google home hub
Post by: renegade600 on November 24, 2018, 12:41:59 am
got the google home hub during the black friday sale.  pretty nice and very good for what it does.  I only got it for the bedroom and did not want a camera.   I like the clock on it.  look like a regular bedside clock.

I also got a Google Home Hub at Black Friday sales.. I have it on a side table in the living room, where there is a TV and sound system with Chromecast.

What I like.. it’s attractive.  It displays what it thinks I said across the top of the screen.  Android integration with my Pixel Phone.  Google Maps!   YouTube!!!

Video is comparable to the Echo Show in my bedroom, sound clear but less impressive than the Show (but I have the Chromecast when I need good sound).

What I think it should do better.. when it shows me directions to someplace, I should be able to say, Send to my phone, like I can when I view Google Maps on the PC.   I’m also trying to figure out how to switch between viewing videos on the TV via Chromecast, and watching on the Home Hub device.. when I don’t want to wake the person asleep in the next room.

I have three.  I was in the camp (back when Alexa first came out with a display) of "I just don't get it".  Then I jumped the Alexa ship and went totally into a Google ecosystem.  I'm very happy there (even tho I did just buy an Alexaa 3rd Gen...price was too good to pass up).  Then when there was rumors of a Google smart display I still said NOPE, don't need it.  I was convinced breaking away from the screen was the way to go.  I love the screen size (It could ber 1" bigger), that I'm not paying for a camera that I don't want.  Screen is beautiful.  Audio is fine and depending on it's surroundings, can sound even better.  I have one on the windowsill in the kitchen, one in the bedroom and one in the office.  The ambient mode is masterful.  It's amazing how the colors blend in with the room and the lighting.  It's truly like looking at a photo in a frame and not a bright digital photo frame.  For some reason, it didn't ship with Continued Conversations :o  That's a huge step backwards.  It's coming but when is anyone's guess.

a couple of major disappointments.  No voice commands for lights and such and cannot play your own library off the microsd card.   good thing I did not purchase it for those features.

You're saying you can't control your lights via voice with GH?

forgot about starting this thread and did not update.   for a few days after getting the hub, every time I wanted it to turn something on/off it would say it did not support that feature or something like that.    don't know why but whatever happened it started working the other day.
