is there not a way to cancel the nest alarm remotely? my alarm went off because of steam and it won't shut down. I can silence it but after so many times it can't be silence anymore. I thought I had it shut off but after going out to get something to eat, it started going off again. I live in a duplex and don't want them to call the fire department. fortunately they were gone this time around.
right now the next alarm is sitting with all the batteries out. the funny thing is, I am still getting notifications about smoke in the hallway.
any suggestions?

It sounds like you are using the Nest Protect, at first I thought you were using the new Nest Alarms device.
I have 3 Nest Protects, and of all the Nest devices I am least happy with it. I too get an occasional "smoke in Basement" notification, however it never goes to a full audible alarm, just the notification. Try clearing the sensor chamber with some compressed air in a can. I assume there is no longer steam or smoke present.
