Echo Technical Support / Re: Sockets & lights disconnect at night
« Last post by renegade600 on November 19, 2022, 05:09:34 pm »
since you said they are not working in their own apps, and since you said there is more than one app,  then it is not an alexa problem.

did you check to see if they worked from their own app?   without knowing what lights and sockets you are using there really is no way to know.   could have been updating.

Echo Technical Support / Sockets & lights disconnect at night
« Last post by Acjb007 on November 18, 2022, 06:02:33 am »
Hi, fot the past few days I've got up early at 4am and all the smart sockets and lights aren't working. It says they're not connected. My echo works fine and WiFi is working. Around 7am they suddenly all start working again.

Any ideas how to stop them disconnecting?

what is the exact command you are giving?    I keep the names short and give short commands.    For example, the light is called spare bedroom, so I give the command, "turn on spare bedroom".   I do not say "turn on the spare bedroom light" because it is too wordy and can confuse.

Echo Technical Support / Echo 3rd Gen Lights up but 3 attempts to resend
« Last post by NoNo88 on November 16, 2022, 04:59:45 pm »
Just purchased a second Echo thinking that the first (couple of years old now) was malfunctioning but it is doing exactly the same as the first one.

Responds by lighting when you say Alexa but takes 3 attempts before it'll actually do what you are asking. App shows device as offline. Internet issue? App issue? Device software issue? Tried a lot of fixes but nothing has helped.

Our router does have a 5G option, does this make any difference?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Alexa Software Development & Technical Discussion / First foray - starting points
« Last post by sbparsons on November 16, 2022, 09:30:47 am »
Hi,

I have a set of home automation devices recognised by Alexa and I can control them easily enough with the standard utterances.

However, I would like to create a few new phrases to be recognised by Alexa and have them trigger a set of existing devices (switches, in this case). As an example, if I were to say 'Alexa, boost the heating for 45 minutes' I would then see a switch for the heating turn on and a switch for the hot water circuit turn on. After 45 minutes, they would both then switch off.

I understand a bit about skills, etc. and can follow the basics (and have done) - but my main question is on how to make use of existing devices already registered with Alexa, such as the switches mentioned above. Are they accessible from within a lambda and if so, how?

Any pointers would be great - even better if there are some resources with examples using existing devices within Alexa.

Thanks.

Ended up doing a factory reset (mute and vol down buttons for 20 seconds) and seems to have worked to send longer messages again.

- incase anyone ever searches for this! :)
