Amazon Echo Discussion / More crap on the Echo screens
« Last post by jwlv on December 27, 2022, 07:51:50 pm »
Just today I noticed that there are "sponsored" home screen content on my Echo Show 5. What an even better reason to get rid of my Echo Shows. I've already been annoyed that Amazon adds new home screen content every few weeks. For a couple of years now, I've had to go into settings every few weeks to remove them on my many Echo Show devices. And more recently, you can't even get rid of the "Alexa for your day" content. I used to have a whole house full of Echo Show 5's. I've already gotten rid of several of them. I'm down to three left. Now there is even more incentive for me to get rid of the remaining three.

Echo Technical Support / Echo show hears command, responds, but no sound
« Last post by Ridleyrm on December 27, 2022, 11:34:42 am »
I got an Echo Show for Christmas. Set it up and worked great. Woke up on 26th and asked a question, it acknowledged me, provided an onscreen reponse, but no verbal response. Unplugged, reset it and worked great for about 4 hours and then did same thing again. If the Echo is left for a few hours, it loses the ability to play anything. Alexa will wake up ok and listen to my command. Then will respond to say she's now playing a song or a radio station, but no sound comes out. It's like alexa thinks it's playing but it isn't.

I've turned up the volume all the way, I can still hear alexa so I know the speak is working. The wifi in the house is up and available but still no sound. The only fix I can do is to pull out the power cable and put it back in again. But I'm doing that 3/4 times a day and to be honest, that isn't really a fix.

Can anyone help me before I send it back?

Thanks

Echo Technical Support / Re: Lifx bulb in Lifx app but Alexa can't see it

Finally found the issue.  I went into the light's room, selected the three dots in upper right, and clicked light settings.  I noticed that in "Cloud" it said disconnected.  So, I connected it and immediately got a notification that Alexa had recognized and added a new device!

Not sure why it wasn't connected to the cloud but we're moving on!  ;-)

Disabled the Lifx skill, closed everything, re-enabled.  Got the notifications that my Amazon account had been linked with Lifx Optimized for small home skill.  Went to Alexa app and tried to add a new device.  It still couldn't find it in Lifx.

Reset the light because Lifx said it was unresponsive.  Couldn't get anything to connect to it.  After the reset, Lifx found it, added it to the proper group, and I can control it's off/on, color, and intensity with the Lifx app.  Changed its name just in case anything was remembered on the old one..

disable the skill in the alexa app and enable it again and see if it helps.

why did you factory reset the bulb?

Echo Technical Support / Lifx bulb in Lifx app but Alexa can't see it

I had to factory reset a bulb I've been using for years.  I set it up again in Lifx and can control it there.  I went to the Alexa app and tried to add it by selecting the + and bulb type, selected Lifx from the list, and clicked [Discover Devices].  It searches for a while and then says, "No new devices found".  I can control all the other Lifx lights with Alexa like normal... just can't see the new one.  Have tried changing its name and repeated the process many times.

Any ideas how I can get the Alexa app to see the "new" light?

You’re correct!

Thanks so much.

Before I began the setup, I checked to make sure everything was on 2.4G. But during the process, I received a Pop-Up message stating the Alexa app needs to be connected to WiFi. I immediately opened Settings and discovered the iPhone had changed to 5G on its own. I changed it to 2.4 and the device connected.

Your expertise is much appreciated.

cannot do that here in my neck of the woods, turn your back to pick up something and the phone will disappear real quick.   I like just asking and deleting with voice.

I have my Shopping List open in the Alexa app on my iPhone, which is clipped to my supermarket shopping trolley. Most of the time the List remains on the screen as I'm regularly tapping it to remove items I've purchased. If my iPhone does lock, a simple swipe up following Face ID gets me back to the Shopping List. I hardly notice it.
