Amazon Echo Discussion / Unable to setup an old echo dot (2nd Gen)
« Last post by pratik0807ray on October 27, 2021, 03:06:41 am »
Hi All,

I'm very new here and coming to you people for help. I have a second generation old echo dot, which was disconnected for the better part of last year. Now, when I tried to set it up newly again, I'm unable to get connected to it automatically. It says that local area network connection is not given. I am in iOS, and when I try and check the Alexa app settings, I do not find an entry for local area network. Neither does the app request this permission while being re-installed.

Even in manual mode I am unable to set up because the Amazon - XXX Wi-Fi does not simply come up. Note that everything else goes fine, only there's no Amazon Wi-Fi when searched.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Echo with Brinks/alrm.com to arm/disarm?

thanks, but no bueno.  They say they have a skill called "Brinks Home Security" but it's not coming up in search.

I think there's a disconnect with them and what they offer.  ADT had the same problem.

Smart Devices and Gadgets / air fryer

just want to brag  ;-)

heard about a Cosori smart air fryer in another forum and after researching it, decided to give it a try.   It works with both alexa and google.   Never had an air fryer before and with it working with alexa, it was perfect and worth a try.   Using it with the amazon smart oven since I do not use the full size oven because it is too big to for one person.  So far everything I cooked in it did better than a skillet.

I am not familiar with brinksecurity.   thought they were just armor cars.    I found the following article.   Maybe it will help

Amazon Echo Discussion / Echo with Brinks/alrm.com to arm/disarm?
« Last post by kenf on October 21, 2021, 02:24:32 pm »
I switched alarm companies to Brinks which uses Alarm.com and it doesn't look like Brinks has its own skill, and the alarm.com skill doesn't mention arm/disarm in its examples

Anybody got this configuration and are using it for arm/disarm from echo?

My goal is to modify the Good Night routine that uses a Custom command for "ask Alarm.com to arm stay" or whatever the syntax is.  Alexa Guard is worthless as it only recognized disarm and arm away (and only with ADT it seems).

Ok, this is interesting.  I'm using a Universal Devices ISY box (ISY994i) which enables control over Smarthome devices.  Control of device and scene switches and plugs, scheduling of devices and scenes, etc.   Universal Devices created an Alexa skill that allows you to add voice control and have Alexa respond appropriately and tell the ISY device to issue the appropriate commands.

It's been acting intermittently for quite a while now.  I've consulted with UD support and it looks like a DNS name resolution issue.  The big question is between which devices?  The UD interface on my PC never has any problems communicating with the ISY.  The Skill is the one that keeps cutting in and out.  One moment it starts working and may work for days before then cutting out - then it will be unresponsive for an hour or several days, then come back.  Error message (vocal) from the nearest Alexa device is:  ""Sorry the hub that device XXX is connected to is not responding, please connect the power supply."  When I go into the PC interface, I see the portal on the ISY is showing as registered but offline.  But the PC can interact.

The Skill does not require any of our PCs to be on - so the communication has to be between the Alexa skill and somewhere in the cloud and back to my ISY unit.  Looking at the ISY log something is trying to communicate with my.isy.io - pinging shows that this resolves so someplace running in AWS:

C:\Users\dbutc>ping my.isy.io

Pinging portal-nlb-762d8181e4d497aa.elb.us-east-1.amazonaws.com [44.198.244.63] with 32 bytes of data:

The requests time out, as I expected - not responding to pings is a good security measure.  But other requests complete.

Any thoughts and other things to try?  Anybody also a Universal Devices customer?

Thanks,
Dave

While not a complete solution. I take screenshots of mine then store them in a folder in my phone.  At least I know how to recreate them again when I need to.
