New firmware Oct 20, 2016
« on: October 20, 2016, 04:27:23 pm »
According to Amazon, as of Oct 20, the latest firmware for the Echo, Echo Dot (gen1) and Echo Dot (gen2) is version 4148.

My Echo is still on version 4008.

To force an update, press the Mute button on the top of your Echo so that the ring glows red. After leaving it like this for at least 30 minutes, the firmware should automatically update. It might be best to leave it like this for an hour or two.

So what's new in version 4148? Amazon says just two things:

-    Echo Spatial Perception
-    Bug Fixes

BTW to find the firmware version of your Echo device, open the Alexa app on your phone, tap the menu > Settings > select your Echo device (if you have more than one) > scroll all the way down and you'll see the Device software version.

Echo Tap, Fire TV, and other Alexa enabled devices use different firmware than the Echo and Echo Dot. So they will not have the same version numbers.

I just checked;  Echo has v4008, one Dot has same old version as Echo, and other Dot has the new v4148.  So much for the different versions theory.

Both Taps have a completely different version, and they are same on the two Taps.

As for forcing an update, I can wait for nature to take its course.

I am more concerned that all you people getting the new Dots didn't buy them all up since I still need to buy my 6-pack for Xmas gifts!

If you dig deeply enough on the Amazon UK site, you'll find that 4008 is the latest UK version for the Echo.

Mine too, also UK. My Dot shows 561179520; I've only had it a couple of days and it updated on arrival.

According to Amazon, the Echo, Dot 1, and Dot 2 should be version 4148.
But my Dot 2 shows version 561179520.

Thanks for that tip about Mute, giving that a go now. I'm still on 3173, none of my echo's or my new dot have updated at all. I had thought it might be related to the FireTV which I have updates blocked.

So  I moved them to a new router and now they have unfettered access. Then...I found the BT problem with the Homehub which I don't have but I do have BT. So changed the ips and gateway to match the manual settings for that issue. And still they don't update. So I will reply back if the Mute works etc............been driving me nuts the whole weekend.

My old Echo dot, Echo and tap all are on old firmware, but my Dot gen 2 said out loud that there was an update within 5 minutes of setting up.
