Echo 3rd Gen Lights up but 3 attempts to resend

Just purchased a second Echo thinking that the first (couple of years old now) was malfunctioning but it is doing exactly the same as the first one.

Responds by lighting when you say Alexa but takes 3 attempts before it'll actually do what you are asking. App shows device as offline. Internet issue? App issue? Device software issue? Tried a lot of fixes but nothing has helped.

Our router does have a 5G option, does this make any difference?

what is the exact command you are giving?    I keep the names short and give short commands.    For example, the light is called spare bedroom, so I give the command, "turn on spare bedroom".   I do not say "turn on the spare bedroom light" because it is too wordy and can confuse.
