Reaching the end of its life cycle?  Bring back Alec Baldwin to pitch it again.  Maybe Flo would do better, tho.

google already came out with their device.  they just need to create the echo clone software for it.   I read some reviews for the on-hub that said there was a lot of electronics in it that was not being used.

Amazon is still selling the Echo for $179 and it's backordered for weeks, so I don't think a couple of retail outlets having a sale means much.

If they have it in stock, it means a lot.

Yeah, it means that they, specifically, are trying to move the product, for any one of a dozen (or more) possible reasons.  But it doesn't mean any of the things that are being speculated here, especially if Amazon is selling all they can make at full price.

I don't think anyone was "speculating", basically they were wisecracks. At least my comment sure was.  Anyway, the product is alive and well; cousin bought his first one last month when they were on sale along with Tap. It was backordered for a month, and his arrived yesterday, Monday.

Like a lot of products where the initial "sunk costs" have been covered, the company can go ahead now and price the things at great sales prices, since all revenues today are more profit, than repaying development costs.  The Echo is a giant success; the sheer volume of reviews at Amazon prove that.  The product has definitely outsold any product Microsoft ever made (other than maybe the Xbox).

Poor Microsoft; they just can't figure out the consumers and what they want.  They keep trying, though.  Good for them.  Maybe if they were first to market, rather than usually last, their batting average would improve.  Long live Clippie, the Windows paperclip-style helper who died suddenly and went to heaven.  (Was he murdered, or did he just die from neglect?)

Was in Loews and there was a large in-store display with a price of $160 http://www.lowes.com/pd_786381-53777-B00X4WHP5E___?Ntt=amazon+echo&UserSearch=amazon+echo&productId=1000015057

You can usually buy Lowes gift cards for 10-15% under face value from a number of gift card sellers. So for a $160 Echo, you could possibly pay around $140.  You can also use one of those 10% off coupons that come in the post office change of address packets and end up paying about $126.
