Echo Show 8, Recently Played list and Spotify
« on: February 24, 2020, 08:57:45 am »
Hi all,

New to the forum. Spent the last 1.5hrs on the phone to Amazon about this issue. And countless more trawling the internet and troubleshooting for myself. As well as having replacement devices delivered and 4 factory resets. Thought I'd visit a few forums to see if anyone has a fix. Amazon support have come up with nothing so far.

Basically the issue relates to my Show 8 and "Recently played music". Sample image link below:
https://cdn1.expertreviews.co.uk/sites/expertreviews/files/styles/gallery_adv/public/2019/11/amazon_echo_show_8_005.jpg?itok=lS_3j3Hr

When the music source is Spotify I get an error stating that the "Skill is not longer available and to enable it in the Alexa App". I have Connect for Spotify enabled at the request of Amazon Customer Services. No joy with that. My default music provider is Spotify. If I ask Alexa to play music it does (from Spotify) without an issue. All other music sources are fine. Radio Stations, Amazon Music play when I click them on the touch screen. Only Spotify has the issue.

My young kids like the same songs and it would be great if they could use this feature.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

This is the Spotify skill that you need to enable on your Alexa account:
https://www.amazon.com/Spotify/dp/B07FK56GVY

The skill description says "Users can stream free with ads or subscribe to Premium to go ad-free and ask for any song on- demand."

BUT... The Spotify website says (on bottom half of the page) "You need premium to listen to Spotify with Alexa"
https://www.spotify.com/us/amazonalexa/

So there are two very different statements to whether it's free or you need to pay to listen to Spotify.
