problem with echo input
« on: November 22, 2019, 08:18:47 pm »
I have a number of Alexa devices and all are working fine.  Just purchased echo input for hot tub.  It is covered and has 12v wiring from a transformer running lighting. I hooked up a usb power outlet to wire.  I plugged in the input to usb port but device just lights up blue then cyan...doesn't complete boot up.  The device does work if I plug into usb on computer.  It completes boot up and runs.  I have the echo auto, and that does work if I plug into usb outside.  Not sure why it is not working.  Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the USB adapter is not providing enough power. Most Amazon Echo devices require at least 1.0 or 1.5 Amps of power at 5 volts DC. Older phone chargers are only rated at 0.5 amps (sometimes written 500mA). So make sure your USB adapter is providing enough power.

Another thing, if you are using an extra long USB cable, say more than 6 ft, there will significant power loss due to the length of the cable. Avoid using long USB cables.

Thanks for your reply.  I am using cable that came with device. The usb 12 volt usb power outlet is supposed to be putting out 5 volts and 2.1 amps, but don't have tester to verify.  For now am using my Alexa auto instead since it works fine with usb outlet.
