Controlling devices independently
« on: March 07, 2019, 02:47:40 pm »
I'm relatively new to Alexa and have also recently installed Hue lighting and a few smart plugs in my home.

In our Conservatory, I have a main ceiling light (Hue), a lamp (Hue), and a heater connected to a smart plug.

They are all in a Group called "Conservatory" which I can control from my Alexa app.

I also have an Echo dot in the room, and this is where it goes a bit wrong.

When I say “turn the conservatory lights on” it turns on the lights, the lamp, AND the heater. I just want it to turn the main light on, not the lamp or heater.

When I say “conservatory lights OFF”, it turns off the lights, the lamp and the heater.

How do I get the Echo dot to control them independently?

in order to create a group, you must already have names for each device within that group.  just use that name and tell the individual device to turn on/off

Also make sure the heater smart plug is configured as a switch and not a light.
