"Alexa: Temp Inside" - Where from?
« on: February 09, 2019, 04:48:57 pm »
"Alexa: Temp Inside" returns the exact same temperature from each of my 3 Echos located in 3 different rooms.

Seems unlikely that each room's temp is the same to a tenth of a degree.

So where does Alexa get that number?

Not Outside...Inside...

from the thermostat

Strangely, I haven't figured out how to get Alexa to report temp on my Motion Sensor (Hue) either... but the inside temp is reported as what my thermostat is showing (Lyric T5)

Siri gets it and reports it by Sensor "Room" name though.

There are no networked thermostats or thermoil meters in our house.

Mit current guess is that Echos have a built-in thermometer thst reads a few degrees lower than actual temp.

and that is something you should have posted in your original message.   how do you know the temperature is different between rooms and is being reported wrong?    might want to get some real thermometers to check if it is that important.

Sounds like that is the answer - and the thermometer is just reading a few degrees low.

Been there with a Raspberry Pi  and temp sensors: some of them can be pretty far off.

In many electronic sensors there's a way to calibrate them to the actual temp as well. Should be able to adjust somehow to read temp expected... Could be hardware adjustment or adjustable by electronic means (usually this really is just an addition subtraction done automatically by the output side, but can be done in percentages as well on some sensors) Been a while since I played in that arena... but I have memories of doing this kind of thing within my limited electronics days.
