I have the Amazon Alexa app on my S8+. Can I call a landline using my Echo Dot?

Yes you can use it to call anywhere in Canada or USA for free.  Just needs to be hooked up to wifi.

You don't get a "call", you get an "SMS Text Message". So you have to have a Cellphone. I don't, but have VoIP phone service that can run on all my mobile devices and get "certain" types of text messages, but not from Amazon. So I can't use my "Home/Main" phone. Had to use a family members cellphone that when you make a call their phone number comes up in the Caller ID. If only my VoIP service could get the Amazon text I could get the code and that number would be my CID for calls.

If you are using a Cellphone, it too may not be able to get the Amazon Text. Not sure what's so special about the way they send texts. I thought it was all about the same.
