Can I tell alexa to play a custom playlist on spotify?  I can do this with Cortana and assumed this would work with Alexa

Looks like you have limited use of Spotify on Alexa unless you have Spotify premium.

Yes, you need Spotify Premium. Then it’s simply a matter of requesting your custom playlist once you’ve linked your Spotify account.
“Alexa, play my “Various” playlist on Spotify.”
