Smart (Magic) Mirrors

I first read about these back in 2009 back then I thought creating one was more of a way to amaze kids.

Recently I read a newer post about a commercially available bathroom vanity smart mirror which peaked my interest a bit more. However I didn't think a bathroom was the best place for this.
This forum mentions Smart mirrors in various threads but just in passing so I figured they deserved a thread of their own.
You don't need a Pi to make one of these and almost everyone has an old smart phone or tablet laying around why not put it to use.
There are several Android magic mirror apps available and it is possible to speak to Alexa, Google Home, Cortana, Siri and possibly other AIs with your phone now. Why not create a dual use mirror with one.

I found a place in the US that will supply sample two way mirrors for a very resonable price ($0.99 to $24.95 ) depending on the sample type and size, most will work with a small smartphone.

However shipping costs for me makes it cheaper to buy locally. :(
I have an old smartphone and tablet laying around so I'll play around with these first. I also have an old led monitor and a couple of Pi's in operation which may be able to do double duty. ;)

There is a opensource Pi program on github which has several end user modules available for virtualy any thing. This is geared towards newbie Pi users as a first project so anyone could go that route.

After finding the Magic Mirror Forum and reading through user mirror pic threads, I ordered a piece of acrylic two way mirror locally. https://forum.magicmirror.builders/category/12/show-your-mirror
I believe reading through these will inspire almost everyone.
You can basically create a Pro Alexa Show or Google Home equivalent.
The number of user created info modules for magic mirror is truly staggering and more are created almost daily.
I now have a winter project and figure I can create 2 mirrors with the one piece of acrylic. The cost of one mirror should work out to under $35 US as I have most things needed laying around collecting dust. ;)
