Syncing external LED to Echo's light ring

Anyone know if this is possible? Notifications would be crucial, but it would be nice to sync for all the ring activity.

I am guessing that nobody has heard of anyone doing this before and that the Echo cannot do this natively. I am also running Homeseer and I am 90% sure I can get Homeseer to properly tell the light what to do, but without the Echo telling Homeseer, there is no point. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great!
